Database Platform Lead: Oracle & SQL Server Expert

Manager of Database Administration – Job Overview The Manager of Database Administration will architect and lead the enterprise database platform for MARTA, overseeing all Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server technologies including Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle Real Application Cluster, Oracle Application Server, Oracle R12, Oracle 11g, and SQL Server 2008. The role requires planning, development, maintenance, performance monitoring, and implementation of efficiency improvements across all relational database systems. The manager will also perform backups, disaster recovery testing, data archiving, support development and user issues, and maintain security and integrity standards. Responsibilities Serve as technical lead and architect for MARTA’s enterprise database platform. Represent the database platform on the Technology Custodian Board as the Database Expert; make technical decisions and develop policies, standards, and procedures. Plan, develop, and maintain database systems for all applications that use relational databases. Guide the DBA team with performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and efficiency improvements. Oversee all Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server technologies, including Oracle E-Business Suite and Oracle Real Application Cluster. Conduct regular database backup and recovery tests, disaster recovery tests, and data archiving. Provide support to developers and users with database-related issues. Maintain broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and systems. Manage and oversee other applications as assigned. Perform related duties as assigned, including Transit Ambassador assignments. Lead a team of DBAs – Sr. DBA, DBA III, DBA II, and DBA I. Qualifications Minimum bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and at least seven years of directly related IT experience, including team management. Proficiency with Oracle Real Application Cluster, Oracle Application Server, Oracle E-Business Suite R12, 11g, and SQL Server 2008. Demonstrated knowledge of current database technologies, data analysis techniques, and database performance tuning. Sufficient experience with database security, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery. Strong problem‑solving skills for highly technical system issues. Alternate experience may substitute for a degree on a year‑for‑year basis. Computer & Technical Skills Advanced understanding of Microsoft desktop applications, Microsoft Project, Excel, Visio, ITIL Service Desk, HP PPM, and basic project management tools. Certificates & Licenses ITIL certification is preferred. Physical Demands The role requires standing, walking, reaching, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds less than 25% of the time, and transporting server and networking components to all MARTA locations. Visual requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus on system components and cabling in data center cabinets with sometimes limited lighting.
