Job Description
Job Title: Seasonal Speech Language Pathologist

Experience: Minimum of 1 year of full-time acute care specific experience in adult dysphagia/modified barium swallows or 2 years of skilled nursing/inpatient rehabilitation facility experience in adult dysphagia/modified barium swallows.
License: Licensed to practice Speech Therapy in the State of Mississippi
Certifications: Current Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Basic Life Support
Must-Have: Competence in modified barium swallow studies


Description:
The Seasonal Speech Language Pathologist will be responsible for providing a full range of speech-language pathology services.
These services include assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic interventions in an interdisciplinary environment.
The incumbent will demonstrate accountability for program development, quality improvement, and problem-solving.
The role requires knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
The Speech Language Pathologist should be able to assess data reflective of the patient's status.
It is important to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements related to age-specific needs.
The candidate will use critical thinking during patient evaluation and treatment planning.
Documentation must be compliant, secure, and timely in the Electronic Medical Record.
A strong understanding of anatomy and physiology impacting vocal, auditory, memory, and swallow skills is essential.
The Speech Language Pathologist must appropriately identify learning needs for patients and family members.
Team collaboration is crucial to assist patients and families throughout the acute therapy care system.
The candidate should perform patient evaluations using appropriate functional tests and measures.
Determining functional deficits and constructing appropriate goals is a key responsibility.
The goal setting will incorporate patient and family objectives while being age-appropriate.
The role also requires the ability to tolerate physically demanding tasks, including moving patients and equipment.
Conducting patient evaluations and treatment must remain within the scope of practice for this discipline.
The candidate must be able to lift, handle, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
