As an Operations Research Analyst, you will perform a wide range of operations research and analytical activities in support of OFO. These activities include quantitative and qualitative analysis to assist senior leaders in decision-making and problem solving of complex operational issues.

Typical duties include:

  • Applying advanced concepts of operations research, statistics, and scientific methods and techniques in identifying and solving a variety of complex challenges germane to OFO's solution support.
  • Performing quantitative and qualitative analysis, data quality assurance, and developing graphics and reports based on the analysis and interpretation of formative and summative program statistics of operational and management program statistics and capabilities.
  • Serving as an expert analyst and advisor to management preparing and presenting technical briefings, white papers, executive summaries, and other communications necessary to achieve OFO goals and objectives.
  • Managing contractual efforts in support of operations research projects. Examining and developing solutions for OFO senior leadership.
  • Serving as a liaison with other federal, state and local agencies and organizations for the purpose of exchanging information and collaborating in support of operations research efforts.

Qualifications

This position has an Individual Occupational Requirement.

Basic Requirement: You must provide supporting documentation in your application to show you meet the basic requirement below:

Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus. (Transcript must include date degree was awarded or conferred.)

You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience as described below and meet the basic requirement listed above.

Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
  • Conducting operations research projects using advanced concepts of operations research, such as modeling and simulation, gap analysis, forecasting, identifying trends from large data sets, and making suggestions to leadership based on performance analyses;
  • Developing, documenting, and implementing analytical tools, models, dashboards, or methodologies to support strategic planning, budgeting, and operational decision support for large, complex programs or field operations;
  • Preparing and delivering detailed technical reports, briefings, and decision papers that translate complex findings into clear, actionable options for senior leaders and stakeholders;
  • Serving as a technical advisor for complex analytical studies, including defining study objectives, developing study designs, identifying data requirements, executing analyses, validating results, and formulating data-driven recommendations for management.

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years.   • Working for the U.S. Government as a federal civilian or as a member of the military
