Veterinary Assistant Opportunity

If you love helping animals and appreciate a fast-paced environment, BluePearl Lafayette would like to meet you. Our 6-doctor Emergency Service is open 7 days a week and sees a variety of cases from routine to complex emergencies. The ideal candidate's skill level should include obtaining lab samples, placing catheters, administering SQ, IM and IV injections, and maintaining equipment/instruments.

Job requirements also include restraining animals, cleaning kennels, and promoting outstanding customer service. Candidate should be a self-motivated, hard-working team player. Cornerstone software familiarity is a plus. This is a full-time position. Hours may vary.

Veterinary Assistant Pay: $19.35 - $28.70/hour depending on experience and advancement through our leveling system. We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.

As a Veterinary Assistant, you will also:

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
