Overview

The Home Staff Lead plays a central leadership role within the group home, ensuring that daily operations run smoothly, staff are supported and accountable, and individuals receiving services experience a safe, stable, and empowering home environment. This position blends direct care, team coordination, and administrative oversight, requiring strong communication skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to person‐centered practices.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Support & Resident Care

· Provide daily support to individuals in the home, including assistance with personal care, meal preparation, medication routines, community access, and skill‐building activities.

· Maintain a safe, respectful, and structured environment that promotes independence, dignity, and meaningful engagement.

· Implement Individual Support Plans (ISPs), Behavior Support Plans (BSPs), Rights Modifications, and all therapeutic or clinical recommendations.

· Monitor resident health, behavior, and emotional well‐being, documenting changes and communicating concerns promptly.

Leadership & Staff Coordination

· Serve as the primary point of contact for staff assigned to the home, offering guidance, coaching, and real‐time problem solving.

· Support new staff during onboarding, ensuring they understand routines, expectations, and resident‐specific needs.

· Model professional communication, trauma‐informed care, and consistent implementation of plans.

· Assist with scheduling, shift coverage, and ensuring adequate staffing levels at all times.

Compliance & Documentation

· Ensure all staff follow agency policies, state regulations, and home‐specific procedures.

· Complete required documentation accurately and on time, including daily notes, incident reports, medication logs, and progress summaries.

· Maintain the home’s compliance with safety standards, emergency procedures, and environmental expectations.

· Participate in audits, home inspections, and quality‐assurance reviews.

Communication & Collaboration

· Maintain open, professional communication with supervisors, case managers, guardians, host home providers, and interdisciplinary team members.

· Attend team meetings, trainings, and supervisory check‐ins as required.

· Communicate schedule changes, resident updates, and operational needs promptly and clearly.

Home Operations

· Oversee household routines, including cleaning schedules, supply inventory, meal planning, and transportation coordination.

· Support the development of structured daily activities that align with each resident’s goals and preferences.

· Ensure the home remains organized, welcoming, and conducive to a calm, supportive atmosphere.

Qualifications

· Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) or related fields.

· Strong leadership, communication, and problem‐solving skills.

· Ability to remain calm, professional, and consistent in high‐stress or crisis situations. Reliable transportation and ability to meet all background, training, and certification requirements.
