Public Safety OfficerThe Public Safety Office promotes and maintains a safe and secure hospital campus environment by providing safety and security services to Northfield Hospital + Clinics (NH+C), patients, visitors and employees.Key AccountabilitiesMaintain a highly visible profile through frequent patrols of campus property to prevent, detect and address unacceptable behavior.Handles hazardous pharmaceutical waste in accordance with hospital protocol, including properly disposing of hazardous wastes, ensuring hazardous waste disposal containers are closed, and recognizing any hazardous waste spills or emergencies and contacting the hospital's hazardous waste coordinator accordingly.Respond to calls for service from off-site NH+C facilities in Northfield, Lakeville, Farmington, Faribault, and Lonsdale.Respond to all Emergency Response Guide activations/Codes.Provide assistance to the campus by responding to calls for service to include escorts, access requests, and vehicle assistance.Assist law enforcement agencies in criminal investigations through exchange of information.Receive training and respond to chemical spills and decontamination of patients.Respond to, investigate, resolve (if possible) and document reported security incidents/complaints.Maintain security and alarm response on hospital campus buildings through active foot patrol by checking, locking, and rechecking all exterior and interior doors and windows.Required QualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalent.Defensive Tactics certification that includes the use of a baton and handcuffs. (and/or NH+C defensive tactics training must be completed within six months of hire).Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training (NVCI).Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Certification (or must be obtained within six months of hire)Possess Basic Certification from the International Association for Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) (or must be obtained within six months of hire).Maintain valid MN Driver's license and driving record that meets NH+C driving standards.Ability and willingness to effectively deal with difficult and sometimes violent people and make decisions quickly while maintaining composure in the crisis situations.Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.Ability to interact with Administration, staff, patients, residents and visitors.Must be able to speak, read, and write English proficiently to ensure safe and effective communication in a healthcare environment.Must be reliable, conscientious and able to work independently.Preferred QualificationsTwo-year college degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, security or related fieldOne year of experience in law enforcement or security workBi-lingual in Spanish or another language.Previous hospital security experienceSchedule80 hours per two-week pay periodThursday–Sunday, 10:00 pm–6:00 am (overnight)BenefitsEligible for Shift Differential Pay in addition to base wagePaid Time Off accrued on first paycheckMedical and Dental Insurance, Vision Discount PlanFlexible spending accountsLife, accidental death & dismemberment, disability insurancePension Plan (PERA) with a 7.5% company matchOptional 457(b) Retirement PlansTuition ReimbursementLoan Forgiveness Eligibility – PSLF + MN state programs for qualifying rolesEmployer-Provided Certifications + Continuing EducationAdditional perks: Free On-Site Parking, Qualified Bilingual Staff Program, Employee Assistance Program, and discounts on cafeteria, scrubs, and OTC pharmacy itemsNorthfield Hospital + Clinics is a trusted, independent healthcare system with more than 800 employees.
