C.R. Crawford Construction is seeking a dedicated Safety Officer to support and enhance the company's safety culture across active construction projects. This position is responsible for conducting field safety audits, ensuring regulatory compliance, identifying and mitigating workplace hazards, supporting project teams with safety-related needs, and promoting a proactive safety culture throughout the organization.
The Safety Officer serves as a key field resource for project teams by providing consistent on-site safety oversight, conducting inspections, investigating incidents, supporting training initiatives, and reinforcing company safety standards. This role works closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, Trade Partners, and field personnel to ensure compliance with company policies, client requirements, and applicable OSHA regulations.
Due to the nature of the position, frequent travel between active jobsites is required. The Safety Officer functions as a highly visible field representative and plays a critical role in maintaining accountability, safety awareness, and operational excellence across multiple projects.
Additional Information
Occasional evenings, weekends, or emergency response support may be required depending on project activities, incidents, or client requirements.

Requirements:Qualifications & Requirements
- Strong understanding of construction safety practices and OSHA regulations.
- Knowledge of commercial and industrial construction operations.
- Ability to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to conduct jobsite inspections, audits, investigations, and safety training.

Required Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Recommended Education
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, or a related field.
Required Work Experience
- Experience in construction safety, field operations, risk management, or a related construction role.
- Experience conducting jobsite safety inspections and audits.
Recommended Work Experience
- Experience in commercial or industrial construction.
- Experience supporting multi-site construction operations.
- Experience conducting safety training and coaching field personnel.
- Experience working with general contractors and subcontractors.
- Experience with incident investigations and corrective action planning.
Required Certifications
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.
Recommended Certifications
- OSHA 500 Trainer Certification
- CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician)
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
- First Aid / CPR Certification
- Other safety-related certifications applicable to the construction industry
Responsibilities
Safety Program Administration
- Support implementation and enforcement of company safety policies and procedures.
- Promote a culture of safety accountability across all projects and business units.
- Assist with development and continuous improvement of safety programs and initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, client requirements, and OSHA regulations.
Field Safety Oversight
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections across active project sites.
- Identify jobsite hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly.
- Provide real-time safety support and guidance to field personnel.
- Verify compliance with site-specific safety plans and regulatory requirements.
- Support project teams with hazard assessments and risk mitigation measures.
- Conduct safety observations and behavioral safety reviews.
- Assist Superintendents and Project Managers in maintaining safe work environments.
Incident Investigation & Risk Management
- Assist with incident, injury, and near-miss investigations.
- Conduct root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions.
- Track corrective action completion and effectiveness.
- Monitor trends and identify opportunities for risk reduction.
- Support emergency response efforts when required.
Training & Safety Awareness
- Conduct and support employee safety training programs.
- Facilitate toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Promote participation in company safety initiatives and industry-recognized safety events.
- Educate employees on hazard recognition, risk reduction, and regulatory compliance.
- Support onboarding and orientation of new employees.
Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain accurate safety records and documentation.
- Prepare reports related to audits, inspections, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Ensure timely completion and submission of required safety documentation.
- Support OSHA inspections, client audits, and regulatory reviews.
- Assist with maintenance of safety metrics, reports, and compliance tracking systems.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve safety performance and employee engagement.
- Recommend enhancements to safety procedures, training, and risk management practices.
- Support implementation of lessons learned from incidents and observations.
- Assist with company-wide safety initiatives and strategic safety goals.

Training & Awareness
- Safety training completion rates
- Employee participation in safety meetings and programs
- Participation in company-sponsored safety initiatives
Hazard Identification & Risk Management

- Frequency of safety assessments and risk evaluations
Safety Culture & Engagement
- Employee participation in safety programs
- Safety observations submitted
- Employee-generated safety improvement suggestions
Documentation & Reporting

- Report completion and submission performance
Employees may be required to perform other job-related duties as assigned to support project, departmental, and organizational objectives. Management reserves the right to modify, assign, or reassign duties and responsibilities as business needs dictate.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel extensively between project locations.
- Ability to walk active construction sites and traverse uneven terrain.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and access elevated work areas.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform field inspections throughout the workday.
$150 per hour
