Job Title: RN Surgical Specialty Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Surgical Floor Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 1 year of acute care surgical floor experience required. Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit experience is required. License: Current RN License issued by the state nursing board or a current multistate compact RN License. Certifications: Current Basic Life Support certification issued by an accredited organization. Must-Have: - Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program. - Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures. - Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. - Good verbal and written communication skills. - Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors. - Some computer skills. Description: Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments. Notes all changes in physician orders for assigned patients. Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients. Observes the physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary. Administers medications as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with family and patients in sharing care plans while in the hospital and at discharge. Informs patients and families of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Performs other duties as assigned. Nurses for this unit need med/surg experience as this floor has inpatients pre or post-surgical services. Most of the patients require surgical experience. Candidates will care for patients post-operatively and need to have experience taking care of patients with new drains, wounds, tracheostomies, ostomies, and nasogastric tubes. Some patients will require stepdown care as well. Ratios for surgical patients are 5:1, and 3:1 for stepdown area. ENT and/or transplant experience is preferred.
