Job Title: General Production Worker – Robot Weld Machine Operator

Job Description

This role operates robotic welding equipment to produce exhaust systems for full-size pickup trucks. You will load sub-assembly components, monitor automated welding processes, inspect finished products for quality, and handle completed exhaust systems while maintaining production targets and following all safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Load sub-assembly parts from a conveyor into the robotic weld machine on an approximately 80-second load cycle.
• Start, operate, and closely monitor the robotic welding process that joins components into completed exhaust systems on an approximately 30-second weld cycle.
• Verify that completed parts successfully pass automated quality testing and barcode engraving processes.
• Inspect finished exhaust systems for weld quality, identify defects, and ensure products meet established quality standards.
• Route defective parts to the weld repair station for corrective welding and rework.
• Safely remove completed exhaust systems from the equipment and place them on racks for further processing or shipment.
• Manually lift and place exhaust systems weighing up to 50 pounds when lift-assist equipment is unavailable or when operating older equipment.
• Maintain established production rates while consistently adhering to all safety policies and quality requirements.
• Follow standardized work instructions and production procedures to ensure consistent output and product quality.
• Support a clean, organized, and safe work area by following housekeeping and safety guidelines.
• Adapt to changing work schedules, overtime requirements, and shift assignments based on production and business needs.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years of machine operating experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
• Experience operating automated or semi-automated machinery, including starting, stopping, and monitoring equipment.
• Ability to perform general production and general labor tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
• Proficiency in visual inspection of parts to identify weld defects and quality issues.
• Capability to maintain production rates while following safety and quality standards.
• Ability to manually lift and handle parts and exhaust systems weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand for up to 9 hours a day on the production floor.
• Willingness and flexibility to work four 10-hour shifts, Monday through Thursday, from 5:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with openness to schedule adjustments and overtime as needed.
• Consistent work history, with no more than 2 total jobs in the past 5 years, demonstrating reliability and stability.
• Strong attention to detail for monitoring automated processes and verifying quality test results.
• Commitment to following all safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment, including steel-toe footwear.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior experience in welding-related production environments is beneficial.
• Comfort working with automated production lines and up-to-date manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and standard operating procedures.
• Strong teamwork skills and willingness to learn from experienced, long-tenured coworkers.
• Steel-toe footwear is required as part of the standard safety attire.

Work Environment

The facility is a very clean welding and manufacturing environment that specializes in the production of mufflers and exhaust systems for major automotive manufacturers. Most of the production floor is automated and equipped with up-to-date robotic welding and material handling equipment. The standard schedule consists of four 10-hour shifts, Monday through Thursday, from 5:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the expectation that schedules, overtime, and shift assignments may adjust based on production needs. Team members stand for extended periods, work around automated machinery, and handle parts and assemblies throughout the shift. A safety-focused culture is emphasized, and steel-toe footwear is required as part of the dress code on the production floor.

This is a Contract position based out of Auburn Hills, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
