Orientation and Mobility Specialist

A rewarding opportunity is available for a skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist to support students and staff in a local school district near Richmond, VA. This part-time contract position is designed to provide expert assistance to the district's existing Orientation and Mobility Specialist, helping ensure students receive the mobility training and guidance they need for educational success.

In this role, you'll work 20 hours per week, helping the current specialist manage and stay current with a growing caseload. The assignment is set to begin as soon as possible and will continue through the end of May 2026-with the potential for continued work during the summer and in the next academic year.

Ideal candidates bring a strong background in Orientation and Mobility instruction, a passion for supporting students, and flexibility to adapt to evolving needs within a school environment. Collaboration, clear communication, and a student-centered mindset are essential for success.

Qualifications:

• Certified or eligible Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
• Prior experience working in educational or K-12 settings preferred
• Strong understanding of best practices for teaching orientation and mobility skills to students with visual impairments
• Ability to adapt instruction to a variety of student needs and learning styles
• Excellent organizational and documentation skills

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide individualized and group orientation and mobility instruction to students
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and district staff to support student progress
• Assist with assessments, report-writing, and the development of goals and objectives
• Support the district's lead OMS with managing a diverse caseload and maintaining timely service delivery
