Employee Learning and Development (ELAD) Instructional Designer The salary range for this position is $87,307.00 - $108,020.00 annually. The salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications and related experience. Typically, new hires start no higher than $90,945.00/year, based on Pierce College's Administrative/Exempt Compensation Plan. Job Overview The ELAD Instructional Designer consults with faculty, staff, and ELAD team members to promote the effective use of technology, instructional design, and adult learning theory. The role improves student learning in online, hybrid, and in‑person modalities and supports equity, inclusion, and accessibility throughout course design and professional development. Responsibilities Design, develop, and deliver high‑quality, inclusive, and accessible learning experiences for faculty and staff. Support faculty in creating accessible course materials that meet ADA, Section 508, and other standards. Assist faculty in designing course content that promotes equity and represents diverse perspectives. Humanize course content to create welcoming, inclusive, and supportive learning environments. Innovate using Pierce College’s inclusive pedagogy framework and design race‑conscious and active‑learning experiences based on assessment and evidence. Collaborate with faculty to align learning outcomes, instructional materials, activities, and assessments to enhance student success. Help faculty integrate multimedia, video, and other technologies. Develop inclusive, accessible, authentic, and diverse assessments, activities, and materials. Initiate, practice, and evaluate strategies to advance inclusivity and accessibility in design, teaching, learning, and professional development. Offer creative and innovative ideas for teaching, course design, and technology integration to promote student learning and success. Research and evaluate emerging instructional technologies and collaborate with the technology team to make recommendations. Coordinate vendor demonstrations of technology tools and gather faculty feedback to inform decisions. Collaborate with college partners to design, develop, deliver, and evaluate a broad range of professional and organizational development opportunities. Promote communication about employee development and learning with all stakeholders. Perform other related duties as assigned. Education Required Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, a technology‑related field, instructional design, learning experience design, or curriculum development. Or, two years of customer service or technical support experience with a learning management system (Canvas preferred) and computer‑related technical issues, with an appropriate combination of education, training, coursework, and experience substituting for a degree. Experience Required Designing high‑quality academic courses for online or hybrid delivery or redesigning on‑ground courses for online or hybrid delivery. Knowledge of technical tools and platforms for engaging, media‑rich online learning content and current trends in educational technology. Advanced knowledge of applying adult learning theories, instructional design principles, and educational methodologies creatively. Hands‑on training delivery, live facilitation, or teaching experience, ideally with adult learners in higher education. Experience working with faculty and teams to experiment with emerging technologies and teaching strategies, and conducting research on their effective use. Experience designing and developing accessible digital content aligned with Section 508 and other relevant standards. Work Environment The role is office‑based, indoors, requiring visual concentration, dexterity, and precision, and involves frequent noise and interruptions. The primary work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours and, after establishment, the possibility of occasional remote work.
