To quote myriad TNC staff members, “you’ll join for our mission, and you’ll stay for our people.” What We Can Achieve Together: The Kauaʻi Marine Program Manager (KMPM) is a new position created to add capacity for marine conservation on Kauaʻi. The KMPM will build relationships with local communities and partners, and scope and develop marine conservation strategies in collaboration with partners, in alignment with community needs and with TNC’s plans, strategies and goals. The KMPM will support and advance community‑led management towards goals such as reducing land‑based pollution, building capacity for reef restoration and response, and improving science and understanding of the marine and coastal environment and fisheries management. The position will bring a marine and mauka‑makai connectivity perspective to collaborate with the TNC Kaua‘i Terrestrial Team. This position may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances. The KMPM will work with partners to advance collaborative, often complex, cross‑sector projects on Kaua‘i by addressing critical threats to environmental systems and individual species. They will coordinate closely with TNC staff working to address similar issues across other islands, as well as the Kaua‘i Terrestrial Team, to foster cross‑site learning and align efforts. The KMPM will work closely with and build trust and relationships across community, government and technical sectors, work with a team to secure public and private funding for the work, and advance solutions that meet defined needs. The position will be based on Kauaʻi. This will be a two‑year termed position. We’re Looking for You: Want to help save the planet? This is an exceptional career opportunity for a highly motivated, capable individual interested in joining the world’s leading conservation organization! What You’ll Bring: BA/BS (e.g., biology, environment, engineering, policy, planning), law or business degree and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in natural resource management, community organization, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with indigenous and local communities and government agencies on ocean, aquatic, and/or coastal management conservation practice and science in Hawai‘i, and experience managing projects within the context of the cultural, social, economic, and political conditions and issues in Hawai‘i. Experience negotiating complex agreements. Experience developing and managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines on schedule independently and with a team. Experience communicating with the public, media, conservation NGOs, community organizations and academic audiences, both in writing and verbally. Experience using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web browsers to meet organizational needs. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience working with agencies and community groups on Kauaʻi. Experience identifying grant and/or funding opportunities and developing proposals. Multi‑lingual skills and multi‑cultural or cross‑cultural experience. Knowledge of land and ocean management conservation practice and conservation science. Ability to explain conservation practices to technical and non‑technical audiences. Salary Information: The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $66,000 – $68,300. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges.
