Job Summary:
The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Nurse position is located in Alexandria, Virginia. This role involves providing specialized care to surgical patients in a fast-paced hospital environment, supporting inpatient and outpatient procedures across multiple specialties. The PACU Nurse will rotate between Preoperative and Postoperative care, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout their recovery process.

Job Details:

• Shift: Days, 8 hours per day, with a schedule that may vary based on operational needs.
• Required Qualifications: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or a multistate compact (NLC) license; minimum 2 years of PACU RN experience; BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications required; experience with electronic medical records systems preferred.
• Preferred Qualifications: Strong perianesthesia background; pediatric patients age 10+ experience helpful but not required.
• Schedule: Full-time, 36 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Typical shift length is 8 hours, with shifts starting at variable times between early mornings and late evenings.
• Float: First to float between PreOp, ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy), Endoscopy, and PACU, with no intraoperative Endoscopy or ECT assignments.
• On-Call: Rotating 2nd Call commitment every 6 weeks, including 3 weekend/holiday shifts and 3 weekday shifts; on-call hours are typically 2100-0530 for weekdays and 0800-2000 or 2000-0800 for weekends/holidays.
• Holidays: Work may be required the day before and possibly the day after holidays; holiday call rotation includes observed holidays.
• Scrubs: Maroon scrubs for PACU, ECT, and Endoscopy; maroon or navy scrubs when assigned to PreOp.
• Unit Description: The PACU unit has 13 bays (10 Phase 1, 3 Phase 2), caring for both inpatient and outpatient surgical patients across multiple specialties, including orthopedics, general surgery, vascular, plastics, urology, ENT, and GI endoscopy.
• Ratios: Phase 1 at 2:1, Phase 2 at 3:1.
• Population Served: Adult and pediatric patients aged 10 and older; pediatric experience is helpful.
• Assignment Length: 10 weeks.
• Additional Information: The ECG exam is scheduled on Day 2 of orientation; passing is required to continue. Attendance at a pre-start study session is strongly recommended.
