Program: Mechanical Engineering Technology Position Type: Part-time, adjunct Semester: Spring 2027 Compensation: $850 - $1000 per credit, based on adjunct faculty rank (determined by education and experience)

Position Overview: NHTI is seeking qualified adjunct faculty to teach courses within our Mechanical Engineering Technology A.S. program, including such courses on 1) Measurement and Control, 2) Statics and Strength of Materials, 3) Thermodynamics, 4) Mechanical Design II, 5) Manufacturing and Materials Processing, and 6) Advanced CAD Modeling. This program educates students in the mechanical engineering field and includes courses in the areas of design, manufacturing, and controls. Math and physical sciences are emphasized to give students the basic knowledge to work with changing technology. Course work incorporates theory and practice with extensive computer applications, including computer-aided drawing/modeling and design.

Course Name: MFET 202C: Measurement and Control

• Course Description: Begins with the study of basic electronics (analog and digital) and electronic components (transistors, op-amps, SCR’s). Electromechanical principles are introduced, leading to consideration of sensors and transducers used in production processes. Paralleling this sequence is the development of programming in Visual Basic. These two paths join during the second half of the course where programming logic controllers (PLCs) and relay ladder logic (RLL) are presented. In the lab, students gain hands-on experience with all hardware and software covered in the course.

• Course Description: Analysis of external force systems acting on bodies in equilibrium with subsequent treatment of the stresses and strains induced. Lab projects will involve the use of nondestructive and destructive testing equipment to determine the various mechanical properties of materials and their behavior under load.

• Course Description: The fundamentals of equilibrium thermodynamics will be presented. Topics will include thermodynamic properties, processes, process diagrams, the First and Second laws, entropy, and an introduction to thermodynamic cycles. Energy analysis of both closed and open systems will be performed with considerations to overall system efficiencies. Discussions and examinations of renewable energy technologies is integrated throughout the course and their impact on society is considered.

Course Name: MCET 260C: Mechanical Design II

• Course Description: A continuation of MCET 250C, treating the topics of rigid and elastic fasteners, shafts and bearings, welds, springs, clutches, and brakes. A series of design projects combining several of these elements will be assigned. Computer methods will be employed where appropriate.

Course Name: MFET 111C: Manufacturing and Materials Processing

• Course Description: Provides a basic understanding of traditional methods of materials processing used in product manufacturing. Through lectures, demonstrations, and first-hand lab exposure, the student is given the theory and applications of each process. The following are covered: casting, extruding, forging, molding, forming, heat treating, joining, and an introduction to machining methods, both conventional and numerically controlled. A $20 materials fee will be assessed for all students.

Course Name: MCET 106C: Advanced CAD Modeling

• Course Description: Builds on the skills learned in MCET 105C. Advanced features of CAD will be explored and demonstrated in their application to mechanical design. CAD program used is latest version SolidWorks. Skills learned include advanced part features (sweep, loft, and datum curves), design automation techniques (configurations and design tables), advanced assemblies (animation, simulations, and top-down design), and advanced design features (sheet metal and mold design). Participants in the class are eligible to download a student version of SolidWorks and take the Certified SolidWorks Associate CSWA exam.

Key Responsibilities for Courses:

• Teach the assigned course using provided curriculum and instructional materials aligned with program standards.
• Facilitate class discussions, assignments, and assessments to foster student engagement and learning.
• Provide regular feedback and maintain accurate records of student progress.
• Maintain professional currency in the field and comply with college policies and standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Individuals with a Bachelor’s degree in the subject/content area or closely related field to the teaching assignment, or a Bachelor’s degree in Education and an Associate’s degree in the subject/content area closely related to the teaching assignment combined with three (3) years of related teaching or professional work experience shall be considered as meeting the subject/content area requirements.

Master’s degree in the subject/content area, or a Master’s degree in Education with twelve (12) graduate credits in the subject/content area or closely related to the teaching assignment and a Bachelor’s degree in the subject/content area closely related to the teaching assignment combined with a minimum of two (2) years of related teaching and/or professional work experience is preferred. Individuals must possess required licenses or certifications as required within the field.

Residency: Must reside in NH, VT, ME, MA, RI, or CT.
