Description We are a 50‑year‑old Co‑Op dedicated to the community, offering great benefits and competitive compensation for our bakery team. Department: Food Services Job Title: Bakery Cook Purpose: To prepare high‑quality breakfast and dessert items in a timely and efficient manner, accurately following recipes, assessing daily needs, and supporting on‑site catering events as required. Status: Reports to Assistant Bakery Manager Customer Service & Core Attributes Assists customers with questions in a prompt and courteous manner Maintains a polite, friendly, and helpful attitude toward internal and external customers Knowledgeable about all bakery products; continues learning about new offerings and can answer questions accurately Ensures quality food preparation, presentation, and execution Handles all equipment safely; removes any unsafe equipment from use Promotes department teamwork through trust and communication Exemplifies honesty, integrity, and ethics; accepts responsibility for personal decisions and actions Contributes constructively to department morale and shows initiative in solving issues and achieving goals Job Specific Functions Prepare all bakery items promptly and efficiently as assigned Facilitate service, support catering events and meals, and maintain the dessert and bakery rack during store hours Ensure kitchen cleanliness and notify appropriate personnel of any equipment failures or malfunctions in a timely fashion Follow receiving protocols to put away orders Maintain high quality of products and adhere to quality standards Accurately follow recipes with proper measurements, making menu‑specific adjustments as directed by a supervisor Maintain appropriate par levels of product and clean, orderly workstations Participate in cleaning projects and adhere to the site’s code of conduct Provide training to new team members as assigned Adhere to established safety and sanitation standards; wash own dishes throughout shift and support the dishwasher with bakery items Input shrink data accurately as needed Work in temperature ranges from freezing to hot while moving between the kitchen, walk‑in freezer, and other areas Stand for long periods throughout the shift, up to 8 hours a day Perform other duties as assigned Requirements Self‑motivated, organized, responsible, and flexible Effective communication skills Professional baking experience; 3‑5 years practical application, preferably in large‑scale food‑service bakery production (bread baking, pastry, culinary education, catering production) Quick and proficient cooking skills, knife work, and understanding of large‑scale production Ability to lift 50 pounds Ability to understand and follow directions Ability to meet standards for health, safety, and excellence Ability to remain alert and focused in a noisy, fast‑paced environment Team‑oriented and detail‑oriented At Brattleboro Food Co‑op, we celebrate difference, support and thrive on it for the benefit of our employees, products, and community.
