Substitute School NurseThe Anamosa Community School District is seeking substitute school nurses at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels. This would be for an on-call, as needed basis only. Applicants must be able to supply current Iowa nursing license.Job Title: School NurseReports to: School Building Administrator - PrincipalSupervises: Health AssistantStatus: Full Time Part Time Hourly Salary Exempt Non-ExemptDate Revised: June 2021Executive SummaryStrengthen the educational process of children and youth, by assisting them to improve or adapt to their health status. Participate in the planning, implementing, and evaluation of a coordinated school health program.Essential FunctionsAssessing and managing health related conditions (ie: Healthy Kids Act);Working in collaboration with others in the school and surrounding community to improve students' health status;Developing priorities in identifying and managing student health problems;Managing health office activities including: Maintaining up-to-date cumulative health records on all students and does individual Health Plans for those students requiring them; Preparing and submitting required reports for the Superintendent, Business Manager and the State Board of Health; Authorizing exclusions and readmission of students in compliance with Board policy on infectious and contagious diseases; Audit and approve Medicaid data; Maintains record of injury reports for students and staff; Prepares/maintains records for Workman's Compensation claims; Oversees drivers drug tests and other employee screenings;Training and supervision of personnel performing health procedures (ie: AED, CPR, First Aid, Medication dispensing protocols);Providing health education activities that emphasize self care, wellness activities, personal health practices, and the appropriate use of health resources;Working with others to minimize environmental risk factors within the school setting;Providing health counseling and guidance to students and their families;Demonstrates integrity and respects confidentiality;Explore personal growth opportunities related to specific job;Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned.Knowledge Skills and Abilities RequiredEducation and LicensureR.N. required, School Registered Nurse Preferred;Current Iowa licensure;Up to date state certificates and trainings (i.e.: Bloodborne Pathogens, Mandatory Reporting, etc.);Current Basic Life Support CPR certification.Knowledge and SkillsKnowledge of professional standards (Nurse Practice Act) and other statutes;Previous pediatric nursing, school health nursing, or community health nursing experience preferred;Ability to manage various components of coordinated school health program;Effective oral and written communication skills;Works well with others, maintaining positive and effective communication with school personnel, students, and families;Works independently, without close supervision, and with confidence;Ability to grasp and adjust to new and changing situations.Physical Requirements: (The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
