Responsibilities include patient intake, vital signs, patient observation and monitoring, treatment room preparation, authorized IV-related tasks, documentation, recovery support, and emergency response. Supervisory Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

Patient Intake and Treatment Preparation

  • Prepare treatment rooms, chairs, monitoring equipment, and supplies before patient arrival.
  • Assist with patient positioning, comfort, mobility, and accessibility needs.

Infusion Support and Patient Monitoring

  • Assist the RN and treating provider with infusion preparation and patient care activities as assigned.
  • Establish peripheral IV access only when permitted in the practice setting and supported by required training, documented competency, and appropriate clinical authorization.
  • Apply approved monitoring equipment and obtain and record readings at intervals directed by the RN or clinic protocols.
  • Recognize and promptly respond to adverse treatment reactions, decreased oxygen saturation, respiratory distress, changes in responsiveness, abnormal vital signs, monitor alarms, and IV-related complications such as infiltration, leakage, dislodgement, pain, or swelling.
  • Initiate appropriate interventions within the EMT’s authorized scope of practice, documented training, verified competency, and approved clinic protocols. When those protocols authorize an immediate response, begin indicated interventions without waiting for the RN to arrive, while promptly notifying the RN or provider and requesting assistance.

  • Report persistent symptoms, abnormal vital signs, impaired mobility, altered responsiveness, or other recovery concerns to the RN or provider.
  • Collect and communicate information used by the RN or provider to determine whether discharge criteria have been met.
  • Assist with discharge after clearance by the authorized RN or provider.
  • Reinforce approved discharge instructions, including transportation arrangements, activity restrictions, fall precautions, and post-treatment safety requirements.
  • Refer clinical questions or requests for individualized medical advice to the RN or provider.
  • Assist patients with safe transfer, ambulation, and departure as needed.

Clinical Documentation and Communication

  • Use assigned electronic health record credentials and follow organizational documentation procedures.
  • Clearly distinguish personally performed care from information reported by the patient or another clinician.
  • Record treatment-related information only as authorized by clinic policy, accurately identifying the clinician who performed or administered the treatment.
  • Promptly communicate significant findings, changes in condition, and actions taken to the supervising RN or provider.
  • Provide clear handoffs when transferring patient care responsibilities.

  • Report patient safety concerns, equipment issues, and near misses promptly.

Infection Prevention and Clinical Readiness

  • Follow hand hygiene, standard precautions, personal protective equipment requirements, and bloodborne pathogen exposure procedures.
  • Clean and disinfect treatment chairs, rooms, equipment, and clinical surfaces between patients according to approved procedures.
  • Handle and dispose of sharps, contaminated materials, and regulated waste appropriately.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational privacy requirements.
  • Follow applicable policies, clinical protocols, professional standards, and federal and state requirements.
  • Maintain required certifications and promptly report changes in certification status.
  • Participate in required training, staff meetings, quality improvement activities, and ongoing competency reviews.
  • Provide support at other practice locations as assigned based on patient volume and staffing needs.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with training, competency, and authorized scope of practice.

Required Skills/Abilities
