At Genesis Healthcare, Inc. , we're more than a healthcare provider-we're a community of caregivers driven by purpose. We're looking for a Medical Assistant (MA) who brings energy, compassion, and commitment to excellence every single day.

• Under the supervision and guidance of a licensed provider and/or licensed nurse (MD, NP, PA, RN, LVN/LPN), the MA is responsible for assisting with direct patient care within the scope of practice, as well as other work in the office which supports the patient needs and environment.
• The MA assists staff to ensure optimal patient care and assists the healthcare team to provide and maintain a clean, safe, and attractive environment for patients. Work will include components of direct patient care, observation, documentation, transportation of patients and supplies, and general maintenance of the triage department to cohesively run the daily schedule.
• The MA is a team player.
• The MA will report to the assigned facility office manager/supervisor as determined at time of hire.
• Serve as a backup to the front desk check in/out area
• The MA will work in various locations/departments as needed.

• Ensure and uphold the confidentially requirements of all patient records and manage al daily task and activities consistent with HIPAA, state and federal laws and regulations, as well as the clinic's policies and regulations regarding confidentiality and security.

• Develop and ensure effective, positive relationships within and among the clinic staff, as well as with patients, vendors, contractors, and related resources.

• Ensure all actions, job performance, personal conduct and communications always represent the organization in a highly professional manner.

PRIMARY TASKS & DUTIES

• Serve as an advocate and health educator to patients, families, and the community.
• Promote health to prevent disease and help patients cope with illness. Serve as an advocate and health educator to patients, families, and the community.
• Prepare patients for and assist with examinations, administer vaccinations to all age groups, assist with lab draws, maintain records on the Electronic Medical Record
• Assist with procedures such as pap smears, breast exams and complete plan of cares and referrals after visit if necessary.
• Assist with medication refills, medical record request and medication authorizations.
• Provide each patient with the information and understanding needed for their disease process as provided by the Provider or the Nurse.
• Reviews each patient chart before appointments compiling their reason for the office visit, any pertinent records to the visit and collectively flagging in the chart.
• Schedules return appointments for the patients and ensure understanding of these dates and times.
• Obtain vital signs per triage guidelines on all patients and record in chart.
• Notify the supervising Nurse/Provider if any abnormality is found during initial information intake.
• Checks equipment and supplies, restocking as necessary and checks emergency kits as directed.
• Responsible for taking initial and interim history and vital signs.
• Responsible for maintaining required education.
• Responds to phone calls in a respectful and timely manner.
• Serve as relief coverage for all qualified positions, this additional schedule will be decided by supervisor.
• Must be able to commute to other Genesis Healthcare, Inc. locations as needed.
• Other duties, as assigned

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/KEY COMPETENCIES

• Utilize a wide variety of office technology and tools to collect, enter, process, file patient records and documentation
• Ability to work in a fast paced, stressful environment

Requirements

Education

• Current, unrestricted MA certification/registration
• Must be Certified or Registered in SC
• BLS certification

Professional

• 1 year experience as MA, preferred
• Communication, customer service or working with the public, preferably in a medical care facility.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

Physical/Environmental

• Ability to interact with computer screen for up to six hours at a time (visual acuity required).
• Must have manual dexterity for use of keyboard. Ability to stand for periods of up to two hours. Ability to communicate via phone, mail and in person to resolve patient issues.
• Capacity to function in a sometimes stressful, multi-tasking environment.
