Job Overview Needham Public Schools is seeking an energetic, skilled, and warm Cafeteria Worker to join our team and support every child. The role involves meal production, serving, and cleanup within the school kitchen and cafeteria. Schedule and Hours Monday – Friday, 7:45 am – 1:45 pm. Location Newman Elementary School, Needham, Massachusetts. Salary and Benefits Hourly rate: $17.50 – $21.57 (SY 26‑27 rate). Benefits, payroll, and retirement information are available through the Unit E collective bargaining agreement. Job Summary The cafeteria worker will perform all aspects of meal production, serving, and clean‑up as assigned by the school Cafeteria Manager. Permanent workers also operate a computerized point‑of‑sale cash register. Responsibilities Use commercial kitchen equipment to prepare and serve food in large quantities. Clean kitchen equipment, serving areas, and perform sanitizing duties. Read basic English to follow directions and written instructions. Follow National Restaurant Association standards for sanitation and safety. Perform simple math functions, operate a computerized cash register, and make accurate change. Lift up to 50 lbs. Stand and walk throughout the work shift. Work safely and accurately under deadlines. Learn and follow food safety procedures (ServSafe training provided; certification required). Follow directions and work independently and cooperatively with co‑workers. Handle exposure to heat, humidity, steam, odors, refrigeration, and cleaning solutions safely. Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment. Display a positive attitude and have fun at work. Working Conditions Extended periods of standing and walking in a non‑air‑conditioned environment. Hair and facial hair must be restrained and covered while performing duties. Vinyl or plastic gloves must be worn while handling food.
