Maintenance Worker II Status: Full-time Your Role The Maintenance Worker II is responsible for the general maintenance and security of Sertoma Star Services facilities, including the buildings, equipment, grounds and vehicles in accordance with local building codes, O.S.H.A. regulations, and other applicable safety standards. Responsibilities Works cooperatively with the Property Manager and Maintenance Manager to determine facility needs and facilitate a development plan for building expansion, remodeling, and acquisition of equipment. Makes jigs and fixtures that will improve production efficiency and enable individuals served to increase their productivity. Installs, modifies, and repairs electrical and plumbing systems and equipment as needed. Performs remodeling and maintenance tasks that come within the trade areas of carpentry and painting. Works with contractors and vendors to effectively coordinate the completion of building and equipment projects. Develops and carries out a preventive maintenance program for agency facilities and equipment. Repairs equipment including vehicles, shop machinery, heating and air conditioning. Performs maintenance and repair tasks on agency facilities and equipment to maintain and enhance facilities and equipment. Maintains records of work performed. Represents the value and mission of Sertoma Star Services to other professionals, the general public, individuals served and agency employees. Provides strong leadership through establishing rapport with staff, setting realistic expectations, giving positive support and mentoring to meet those expectations, and ensuring that staff use sound business and customer service practices in providing support to internal and external customers. Seeks to create and develop innovative ideas and practices that will enhance the effectiveness of services delivered by the department and agency as a whole. Proactively seeks solutions to issues before they become problems. Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace by following safety procedures, implementing good housekeeping practices and proper materials handling, enforcing the use of personal protective equipment when necessary and reporting all unsafe acts and conditions. Recognizes staff talents, abilities, and interests and provides guidance to staff in utilizing these attributes to enhance performance, job satisfaction, and overall department operations. Promotes teamwork by extending cooperation to other staff in completing tasks and projects and supporting the interests of others by recognizing their talents and abilities. Maintains awareness of new developments in the field to promote and develop state‑of‑the‑art department programs and services for the agency. Works collaboratively with other agency staff and external customers to enhance communication, maintain positive work relationships, identify the needs of others, provide timely responses, and promote teamwork for the common purpose of internal and external customer service. Ensures the dignity of individuals served by treating them with respect and understanding at all times. Demonstrates the capacity to manage multiple demands with flexibility in adapting to new challenges while maintaining priorities. Provides open and authentic feedback to staff on a regular basis related to performance, utilizing active listening skills and allowing constructive feedback. Completes performance appraisals in a timely manner. Functions as a member or facilitator of agency committees, as appropriate. Meets requirements of applicable licensing, funding accreditation and other state/federal regulatory agencies; including safety requirements and agency policies and procedures, by utilizing systems to ensure compliance with all standards. Completes all required agency management reports, billing, personnel documents and others as required in a timely and accurate manner. Assists with the development of agency policies and procedures, and develops departmental procedures as needed to ensure efficient operations and maintain current departmental procedures manuals. Assists with fiscal projections for the agency’s annual budget and keeps department operations within the established budget, closely monitoring budget projections. Conducts regularly scheduled department meetings to ensure effective communication and to provide a forum for input. Attends all required agency training and other outside training to enhance knowledge and to promote a learning environment. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications High School education plus two (2) years of college or equivalent education in a recognized program of technical training desired, and three (3) years of relative experience. Demonstrated ability to use independent judgment in planning, sequencing operations and in selecting proper tools and materials. Ability to assume responsibility for attainment of prescribed qualitative standards. Knowledge and skills in the following areas: heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, pneumatic and vehicle maintenance. Exceptional math skills and ability to apply shop mathematics to practical situations. Effective communication skills, both oral and written. Valid driver’s license and documentation of current auto insurance, with an acceptable motor vehicle report. Proficient in the use of computers, software applications, and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs. Benefits Generous paid time off. 13 paid holidays.
