This role encompasses assessing maternal and fetal health, administering treatments, and collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure high‑quality, patient‑centered care during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period. Essential Work Functions Communicate labor and delivery procedures to patients and families. Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved obstetric nursing techniques. Prepare equipment and aid physicians during labor, delivery, and examination of patients. Provide immediate postpartum care, including assessment and stabilization of mother and newborn. Educate patients and families on postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, and newborn care. Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and other team members to deliver cohesive care. Respond to obstetric emergencies, including preeclampsia, hemorrhage, or fetal distress, using evidence‑based protocols. Document patient care, assessments, and interventions accurately in the medical record. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance maternal and neonatal outcomes. Perform fetal monitoring and interpret results. Assist in cesarean sections and other obstetric procedures. Comply with all regulatory standards, including hospital policies, state laws, and federal guidelines for obstetric nursing care. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of labor and delivery nursing. Required Essential Skills Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English. Proficiency in following written and verbal instructions, and in PC skills. Physical ability to remain stationary, move equipment (50‑100 lbs), push, pull, and bend. Interpersonal skills to work effectively with a variety of personnel with a positive attitude. Technical skills to perform fine manipulation and assist with procedures. Mental resilience to cope with frequent public contact, deadlines, and irregular schedules.
