Production Technician

The Production Technician supports the Block Department by preparing, maintaining, and repairing molds and related equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail with measurements and tolerances, and the ability to work hands-on with tools, machinery, and mold systems in a dynamic plant environment.

Responsibilities

• Verify that molds meet established company standards and quality requirements.
• Set up molds for production, ensuring correct configuration and readiness for operation.
• Repair and clean mold components to maintain optimal performance and product quality.
• Read and interpret mold schematics to troubleshoot issues and perform necessary repairs.
• Use grinders, wire wheels, chipping guns, welders, oxyfuel cutting torches, pressure washers, and various hand and pneumatic tools in daily work.
• Document mold wear, damage, and repairs on mold inspection sheets with accuracy and completeness.
• Assist with maintenance projects and parts changes as needed to support overall plant operations.
• Support machine operation activities related to molds and associated equipment.
• Work with equipment such as vibrators and molds that use bearings and hydraulics, monitoring performance and reporting issues.
• Perform occasional light welding for basic repair work when required.
• Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices around moving machinery and elevated areas.
• Maintain predictable and regular attendance to support consistent production schedules.

Essential Skills

• Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in hands-on mechanical work.
• 13+ years of hands-on mechanical or maintenance experience preferred, with openness to entry-level candidates who are coachable and able to learn quickly.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics or technical diagrams for troubleshooting and repairs.
• Experience using hand and pneumatic tools such as grinders, wire wheels, chipping guns, pressure washers, and basic welding equipment.
• Forklift experience or ability to safely operate material handling equipment.
• Basic welding skills sufficient for simple repair work, or willingness to learn.
• Solid mathematical skills to work accurately with measurements, tolerances, and documentation.
• Previous machine operation experience in an industrial or production environment.
• Attention to detail when working with molds, measurements, and tolerances.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs frequently and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
• Ability to stand for extended periods (approximately 75% of the time), walk (approximately 20%), and sit (approximately 5%).
• Ability to bend, twist at the neck and waist, climb, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach below shoulder level.
• Comfort with occasionally entering confined spaces in a safe and compliant manner.
• Reliable, predictable attendance and punctuality.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with molds, bearings, hydraulics, or vibratory equipment is a plus but not required.
• Exposure to conveyors or similar production systems is beneficial.
• Ability to perform basic, non-structural welding repairs is helpful but not essential.
• Willingness to learn mold-specific processes and standards through on-the-job training.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving mechanical issues.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, production-focused environment.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced setting with changing priorities and production demands.

Work Environment

This role is based in a plant environment with a regular shift from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The work setting includes moderate to very loud noise levels and can be dusty and dirty due to ongoing production activities. You will work near moving mechanical parts, at times in high or precarious places, and may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, as well as heat or cold from non-weather sources, vibration, and a risk of electrical shock. The position is physically demanding, requiring frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching below shoulder level. You will regularly lift and move up to 50 lbs and occasionally up to 100 lbs, and may occasionally enter confined spaces following safety protocols. The role involves regular use of tools and equipment such as grinders, wire wheels, chipping guns, welders, oxyfuel cutting torches, pressure washers, and other hand and pneumatic tools, as well as working around conveyors, vibrators, and hydraulic systems. Wearing mandatory and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times to ensure safety in the work area.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Meridian, ID.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
