About the Role We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, highly organized Registered Nurse (RN) to join our surgical team in a unique role that combines clinical nursing, operating room support, and surgical scheduling/patient navigation. This is an ideal opportunity for a nurse who enjoys being part of a close-knit team, takes pride in providing an exceptional patient experience, and is willing to step in wherever needed to keep the day running smoothly. You will play an important role throughout the patient's entire surgical journey, from the initial phone call and scheduling process through pre-operative preparation, surgery, recovery, discharge, and follow-up. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, outstanding bedside manner, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to serve as a trusted clinical resource for both patients and fellow team members. This is a hands-on position in which no two days are exactly alike. The role includes a significant mix of clinical responsibilities and surgical scheduling and patient navigation, requiring flexibility, strong organizational skills, computer proficiency, and the ability to comfortably spend extended periods standing and moving throughout the surgical environment. What You’ll Do Surgical Scheduling & Patient Navigation Conduct phone-based medical intake and phone consultations to determine surgical candidacy and identify potential clinical concerns. Patient navigation: Assist patients over the phone in determining their path to surgery based on their individual needs including next steps, payment options, and travel coordination. This includes conducting proactive follow up with patients throughout the scheduling process. Educate patients about procedures & our facility/process, pre-operative requirements, recovery expectations, risks, and follow-up care. Schedule surgical procedures by phone and coordinate surgical dates, appointments, and required testing. Review medical records and prepare accurate clinical summaries for physician review. Traditional Surgical RN Support Pre-Op PACU OR Circulation In-Person office consultations Teamwork & Clinical Support Work collaboratively with physicians, anesthesia providers, nurses, surgical staff, and administrative team members. Serve as an experienced clinical resource and supportive teammate. Cross-train across multiple nursing and operational functions. Step in wherever needed to support patients and coworkers and maintain an efficient workflow. Communicate openly, respectfully, and professionally with all members of the team. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff education, and continuing education. Contribute to a positive, respectful, team-oriented workplace culture. Required Qualifications Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina. Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. High school diploma or GED. Ability to work on-site Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM-5:00 PM. Ability to perform the physical requirements of a hands-on surgical nursing position. Strong computer literacy and ability to learn scheduling systems. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Five or more years of RN experience. Experience in ambulatory surgery, operating room, Women's health experience and surgical scheduling. Experience working in a high-volume medical office or surgical practice. Outpatient surgical center and medical office environment. Fast-paced, collaborative, team-oriented clinical setting. Frequent in-person, telephone, and electronic communication with patients. Regular exposure to surgical equipment, medical equipment, and healthcare environments. Frequent transitions between clinical, administrative, and patient-facing responsibilities. Fully on-site position Monday through Friday; no remote or hybrid option is available. Physical Requirements This position is an active, hands-on clinical role and requires the ability to remain physically engaged throughout the workday. Stand and walk for extended periods, including during surgical procedures. Frequently move between the operating room, PACU, pre-operative areas, consultation areas, and office/scheduling functions. Lift, transfer, position, and assist patients in accordance with safe patient-handling guidelines. Bend, reach, sit, stand, and perform clinical nursing procedures. Frequently use a computer, telephone, and other office equipment. Maintain attention and physical responsiveness throughout extended periods of standing and patient care.
