Registered Nurse

This is a fast-paced mixed unit with many admissions and discharges due to a high surgical volume. The unit has 39 beds, with 37 private rooms and 1 semi-private room. Ratios are 1 to 4 for telemetry patients and 1 to 5 for Med Surg patients. Assignments may include a mix of Med Surg and telemetry patients. Experience with Cerner is preferred; candidates may be able to test out of Cerner training. A house supervisor is available in-house 24/7, with a nurse manager during normal business hours. Clinical decision support includes a break nurse and charge nurse each shift when a nurse shift manager is not present. Nurse aides are available based on census needs. There is a weekend requirement of 4 shifts out of a 4-week schedule. Weekend shifts for days are Saturday and Sunday. Travelers are expected to work into the permanent staff holiday rotation, including one major holiday and one minor holiday. Scrub color should be navy blue; additional clothing must also follow these color guidelines. Patients may require respiratory support, with CPAP or BiPAP managed by respiratory therapists available 24/7. Common diagnoses include acute and chronic medical conditions, post-surgical patients, stroke patients, and those on non-titratable drips. Medications include set rate drips such as Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Heparin. Staff is known for being warm and welcoming, but the unit can be challenging due to its mixed nature. High patient turnover is common, and any issues that compromise safety will not be tolerated. Travelers are the first to float and may rotate between different care areas based on need. Charting is conducted using a Cerner system. A BSN is not required for this position.
