We're looking to expand our team across the board.York Space Systems is seeking a Flight Software Systems Engineer to enable design, development, test, and delivery of mission-critical software for spacecraft systems. This role focuses on real-time and embedded Linux-based flight software, enabling reliable command, telemetry, networking, and autonomy across on-orbit vehicles. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with strong systems thinking who can operate across the full lifecycle-from architecture and development through integration, test, and on-orbit support. Not all skills below are required, we encourage you to apply if you have an interest in learning!Key Responsibilities:Derive requirements for embedded flight software in C/C++ for spacecraft systemsSupport development planning with FSW management and vehicle systems engineering activities in a cross-functional teamIntegrate software with hardware components (on-board computers, radios, payloads) in Hardware In The Loop (HITL) and simulated environmentsDevelop and execute test strategies (unit, integration, system, and mission-level testing)Support on-orbit operations, debugging, and anomaly resolutionContribute to software architecture, requirements, and interface definitionsCollaborate across platform, applications, mission ops, and hardware teamsRequired Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field2+ years of experience in embedded software developmentProficiency with Atlassian JIRAPrior experience with software development ticket management, requirement management frameworksExperience debugging hardware/software integration issuesProficiency in C/C++, Git/Gitlab (or other code repository management tooling)Must have the ability to independently navigate source code, in order to correlate requirements, developed capabilities, and human interfaces for operationsMust be clearance eligible and ability to maintain an active Secret Clearance or higherLove space!Preferred Qualifications:Familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, routing concepts)Experience with spacecraft, aerospace, or safety-critical systemsExperience with embedded Linux systems (drivers, networking, system-level debugging)Knowledge of real-time systems and deterministic software designFamiliarity with CCSDS, DTN, or space communication protocolsUnderstanding of cybersecurity principles (secure boot, signing, key management)Experience supporting on-orbit operations or live systemsActive Secret ClearanceBenefits In addition to compensation, York Space Systems is proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance along with PTO and a 401K.
