Job Description

The Hardware Technician supports validation bench deployment, ECU configuration, hardware troubleshooting, and overall operational readiness within an engineering laboratory environment. This role focuses on configuring and maintaining electronic control units and related hardware, ensuring test benches and associated systems operate reliably for validation and testing activities.

Responsibilities

• Configure and maintain ECUs, wiring harnesses, peripherals, and validation benches to support installation, expansion, and bring-up activities.
• Support validation bench deployment by setting up hardware, verifying connectivity, and ensuring proper integration with test systems.
• Troubleshoot hardware and diagnostic issues on ECUs, harnesses, and bench equipment to quickly identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
• Perform preventive maintenance on validation benches and associated hardware to maintain high levels of readiness and reliability.
• Conduct regular readiness checks on laboratory equipment and validation benches to confirm they are prepared for testing activities.
• Maintain accurate configuration records for ECUs, harnesses, peripherals, and bench setups to ensure traceability and repeatability of tests.
• Track and update inventory records for hardware components, tools, and bench equipment used in validation activities.
• Interpret and work from electrical schematics and documentation to support installation, troubleshooting, and repair tasks.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to support OTA testing activities and other laboratory-based validation work.
• Document work performed, including configuration changes, troubleshooting steps, maintenance actions, and test bench updates.
• Apply strong attention to detail when configuring hardware, performing tests, and recording results to ensure high-quality validation outcomes.
• Contribute to a team-oriented environment by sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues, and coordinating activities in the laboratory.

Essential Skills

• Demonstrated experience with ECU hardware, including configuration, setup, and validation support.
• Proficiency with CAN tools and communication interfaces used for diagnostics and testing.
• Ability to read, interpret, and work from electrical schematics and technical documentation.
• Hands-on experience with harness troubleshooting, including identifying wiring issues and resolving connectivity problems.
• Experience performing bench maintenance and readiness checks in a hardware validation or laboratory environment.
• Strong attention to detail when configuring hardware, performing tests, and maintaining records.
• Proven hands-on troubleshooting skills for hardware and diagnostic issues.
• Ability to create and maintain clear, accurate documentation of configurations, maintenance activities, and troubleshooting steps.
• Effective teamwork and collaboration skills when working with cross-functional engineering groups.

Work Environment

This role is primarily onsite, working within engineering laboratories that support validation benches, OTA testing activities, and cross-functional engineering teams. The work environment involves regular interaction with ECUs, harnesses, CAN tools, and other electronic test equipment. The position requires hands-on work at validation benches, performing hardware configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting in a structured laboratory setting. Collaboration with engineering teams is frequent, and the environment emphasizes accuracy, safety, and adherence to established procedures for hardware validation and testing.

This is a Contract position based out of Dearborn, MI.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Dearborn,MI.
