CNC MachinistMajor Responsibilities & Essential FunctionsUse precision tools, machinery, and equipment such as lathes, manual milling machines, drill presses, hydraulic presses, band saws, and a variety of cutting tools and equipmentFabricate and shape parts such as tools and machine parts out of metalProperly and safely select, align, secure, and remove holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machinesRecognize, deploy, and properly use inserts, fixtures, and toolingRead and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints of work to be performed and follows instructionsMust be able to determine the proper tools required to perform given tasksOperates and utilizes lifting aids as necessary to perform workUse gauges and precision measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirementsPerform daily, regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery and equipmentAbility to track parts and jobs in TravelersPerform all tasks in a safe and responsible manner while maintaining a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulationsWork overtime as needed on evenings and/or weekendsCommunicates with others to coordinate work in plantOther duties as assignedPreferred Machining SkillsFamiliarity with the use of: Heavy Industrial Lathes, Grinders, Boring Mills, Planers, and Portable toolsTurn, Drill, Tap, Bore, Hone, Polish and Threading machine processesLarge part machining experience preferred (ship propeller shafting, ship steering gear, etc.)Forklift and Crane experience preferredQualificationsHigh school diploma or GED5 to 10 years of related experience is preferred.Language skills - effectively communicate and understand job instructions verbally and written in English.Ability to effectively interpret and translate instructions to other employees in a professional and respectful mannerFamiliarity with Fanuc, Mazatrol, Okuma, DMG/Mori, and/or Heidenain CNC controlsBasic understanding of G-Code and M-Code relative to CNC movementHave experience with maintaining 0.001" tolerancesBasic understanding of G, D, and THave experience in job setup on vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers and CNC turning centersAbility and willingness to learnAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusionsAbility to interpret various technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variablesA strong, proven interest in engineering and mechanical systemsAbility to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and precision measuring toolsAbility to perform basic mathematical computationsAbility to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situationsAbility to work independently and as part as a teamBasic understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel
