The Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for a full-time, permanent Dental Assistant to join the Health Services team located at the Washington Corrections Center in Shelton, WA.

A completed application packet will include: a detailed resume, a cover letter, and three professional references.

Duties include:

• Direct chairside assisting with the following dental procedures: diagnostic, preventive, periodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, prosthetics, and operative procedures.
• Providing patient customer service.
• Educating and instructing the patient.
• Establishing therapeutic relationships that preserve professional boundaries with patients.
• Maintaining patient records and all documentation as mandated by statute, DOH policy, and DOC policy.
• Monitoring and maintaining dental equipment, dental supplies, inventory, and logbooks.
• Facilitating the functions of the Dental Clinic.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications include:

• Graduation from a recognized dental assisting program.
• Registration to practice dental assisting with the Washington State Department of Health and an unblemished and unrestricted record.
• Current CPR certification.

Preferred qualifications include:

• Two years' experience as a dental assistant.
• Experience and/or education in working with medical/dental documents and using medical/dental terminology.
• Experience providing dental services in a correctional environment or full-service community health clinic.
• Knowledge in the areas of scheduling routine/special dental procedures and patient visits.
• Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications and related technologies.

• A background check including criminal record history will be conducted prior to a new hire.
• Employees may work directly with or near incarcerated individuals in a potentially hazardous setting.

• Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) is an aerosol pepper spray made available as a means of self-defense and/or de-escalation.
• Animal care projects are a common component of most Washington State prisons.
• Tuberculosis (TB) is a priority health issue for DOC employees.
• This position may be represented by a bargaining unit.
• Requires respirator medical evaluation questionnaire, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the WA Industrial Safety & Health Act standards.
• Must be able to work in spaces, climb stairs, walk long distances, and frequently lift up to 30 pounds.
• Foreign equivalent degrees awarded outside the United States must have a credential evaluation report attached to your application.
• Candidates who are offered a job with the Department of Corrections must possess work authorization that does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.
• Salary is based on experience and is determined at the time a final offer of employment is made.
