Medical Assistant I Certified - Rex NC Surgery

Summary The Medical Assistant I, Certified provides routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other health care team members in an outpatient clinic setting. The Medical Assistant I, Certified works under the clinical supervision of the provider for patient care activities, and under the general direction of the designated manager/supervisor for non‑clinical responsibilities. This position is eligible for a $7500 commitment incentive paid out in 3 installments over 3 years. Responsibilities Perform rooming and intake process, collecting vital signs, height, weight, and patient reason for visit data. Collect patient and family data, including medical and social history. Review current medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy. Assist the provider during treatments, examinations, and procedures. Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy. Administer medications under provider direction. Perform tests such as EKG, eye exams under provider direction. Review patient record to determine if routine health screenings are required. Ensure exam/procedure rooms contain appropriate supplies, equipment, forms, and educational materials. Provide patients with after‑visit instructions, self‑care, or procedural instructions and educational materials. Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain exam and treatment rooms. Cleans and sterilizes instruments. Assist with patient registration, check‑in/check‑out, appointment scheduling, testing, treatments, and referrals. Answer clinic telephone and assist in‑basket under provider or nurse direction. Assist in emergency situations as directed by provider or nurse. Education and Qualifications Education Requirements: None required as long as other qualifications are met. Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accreditation Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred but not required. Licensure/Certification Requirements: Medical Assistant certification by either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA). Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required. Professional Experience Requirements: Prior medical assistant or medical assistant externship experience preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to perform the essential functions of the position; demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage positively with patients and families; ability to work as a team with staff and providers; ability to use a computer to document required information into the electronic medical record. Benefits Salary range: $18.12–$25.51 per hour (hiring range). After 3 years: $7500 commitment incentive paid out in 3 installments.
