DevOps Engineer (Greater Chicago Area)

The Opportunity

We are partnering with a growing, technology-driven organization seeking a talented Junior DevOps / Infrastructure Engineer to join its engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious engineer who wants more than a narrowly defined role at a large company. You'll join a collaborative, close-knit environment where engineers are encouraged to take initiative, contribute ideas, solve challenging problems, and take meaningful ownership of the systems they support.

The team combines the technical sophistication of a larger organization with the agility, accessibility, and entrepreneurial culture of a smaller business. As the company continues to grow and invest in its technology, you'll have the opportunity to expand your responsibilities, work directly with experienced engineers, and make a visible impact on critical infrastructure.

Rather than being limited to one small piece of the technology stack, you'll gain hands-on exposure to infrastructure, automation, networking, production engineering, and deployment processes.

This is an opportunity to build, improve, and own—not simply maintain.

What You'll Be Doing

• Build, maintain, and improve highly available, performance-sensitive production infrastructure.
• Support and troubleshoot Linux and Windows server environments.
• Develop and optimize CI/CD pipelines across on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure.
• Create automation tools and scripts using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar technologies.
• Improve monitoring, observability, alerting, and overall system reliability.
• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure, application, operating system, and networking issues.
• Collaborate directly with software engineers and other technical stakeholders to support new projects and platform enhancements.
• Implement infrastructure-as-code and automation best practices.
• Improve deployment reliability, operational efficiency, and system visibility.
• Participate in infrastructure design discussions and contribute ideas for technical improvements.
• Take increasing ownership of systems and projects as you grow within the organization.

What We're Looking For

• 0–3 years of professional experience in DevOps, Infrastructure Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, Systems Administration, or a related technical discipline.
• Strong foundational knowledge of systems administration and troubleshooting.
• Experience working with Windows Server and/or AWS environments.
• Scripting experience using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar languages.
• Familiarity with containerization, automation, and deployment technologies.
• Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking and core networking concepts.
• Ability to investigate and resolve technical issues across applications and infrastructure.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative, problem-solving mindset.
• Exposure to database administration or database-related infrastructure.
• Willingness to work on-site as part of a collaborative engineering team.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who is naturally curious, takes initiative, enjoys understanding how systems work, and wants to continually develop their technical abilities.

Nice to Have

Experience with any combination of the following would be beneficial:

• Kubernetes, Docker, or other container orchestration technologies.
• GitLab, JFrog, Ansible, or comparable DevOps tooling.
• Monitoring, logging, observability, and alerting platforms.
• Infrastructure-as-code and configuration management.
• On-premises infrastructure, data centers, or hybrid cloud environments.
• Performance-sensitive or low-latency systems.
• Network diagnostics, packet analysis, and advanced troubleshooting.
• High-performance networking or distributed systems.
• JSON, XML, Parquet, or similar data formats.
• Financial technology or other mission-critical production environments.

You do not need experience with every technology listed above. Strong engineering fundamentals, technical curiosity, and the ability to learn quickly are equally important.

Why Join?

A Culture Built Around Engineers

Join a collaborative team where your ideas are heard, your contributions are recognized, and you have direct access to experienced technical professionals. The environment encourages curiosity, continuous improvement, and people who genuinely enjoy solving challenging problems together.

Growth Creates Opportunity

As the business continues to expand, its infrastructure and engineering capabilities are evolving alongside it. This creates opportunities to help shape new systems, introduce better processes, and grow into increasingly impactful technical responsibilities.

Build Real Engineering Experience

Gain valuable exposure to production infrastructure, automation, cloud technologies, networking, and high-performance systems in an environment where reliability and engineering quality genuinely matter.
