Supplier emissions and Scope 3 measurement lead, AWS Global Sustainability

Are you passionate about using data to drive climate action at scale? AWS is looking for a Scope 3 Inventory Manager Lead to own the end-to-end management of supplier-level greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data that feeds into AWS's upstream Scope 3 carbon inventory. In this role, you will be the single-threaded owner of supplier carbon data quality, accuracy, and process improvement — directly supporting Amazon's commitment to The Climate Pledge and reaching net-zero carbon by 2040.You will work at the intersection of decarbonization strategy, emissions measurement, and strategic inventory quality — partnering with suppliers, internal engineering teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to continuously improve how AWS collects, validates, and operationalizes Scope 3 emissions data. Your decisions on data quality and inventory methodology will directly shape AWS's ability to set credible decarbonization targets, prioritize abatement actions, and maintain confidence in reported emissions reductions. This is a high-visibility role where your work will directly influence AWS's carbon footprint reporting and decarbonization strategy.Key job responsibilitiesOwn Scope 3 supplier data inventory management: Manage the collection, ingestion, and reconciliation of supplier-reported GHG emissions data (Scope 1, 2, and upstream Scope 3) allocated to AWS products, ensuring alignment with the GHG Protocol Scope 3 Standard and AWS's Supply Chain GHG Data Collection Guidance.Model forward-looking emissions trajectories: Develop and maintain supplier-level emissions forecasting models that integrate historical allocated emissions data, committed decarbonization pathways, and projected abatement actions to estimate future Scope 3 inventory trends. Use these models to support target-setting, scenario analysis, and progress-to-goal tracking against AWS's supplier decarbonization milestones (e.g., 2030 intensity reduction targets).Drive data accuracy and quality improvement: Design and implement data validation frameworks, quality scoring mechanisms, and anomaly detection processes to identify and resolve discrepancies in supplier-reported emissions data. Establish and track data quality metrics over time.Improve technology and automation processes: Partner with engineering and business intelligence teams to identify opportunities for automating manual data workflows, improving data pipelines, and scaling Scope 3 measurement capabilities. Define requirements for tooling improvements and track delivery.Manage supplier data validation cycles: Lead the annual supplier data validation process, including reviewing attribution methodologies (e.g., top-down physical/economic allocation, bottom-up LCA models), identifying gaps, and working directly with suppliers to improve data submissions.Serve as Scope 3 measurement subject matter expert (SME): Act as the team's go-to expert on Scope 3 carbon accounting methodologies, calculation approaches (supplier-specific, hybrid, average-data, spend-based), and emissions factor selection. Stay current on evolving GHG Protocol standards and industry best practices.Support cross-functional collaboration and reporting: Partner with Procurement, Finance, ISP, and the broader Sustainability organization to ensure Scope 3 data supports corporate reporting, regulatory compliance, and internal decision-making. Contribute to narratives and business reviews as needed.Basic qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, Data Science, or a related quantitative field- 5+ years of experience in carbon accounting, GHG emissions measurement, or environmental data management- 3+ years of experience working with Scope 3 emissions data, including supplier-reported GHG data collection and validation- Experience applying the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and Scope 3 Standard in a corporate or consulting settingPreferred qualification - Experience working with engineering and technical teams to build automated solutions- Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools- Experience in written and verbal communication with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to executives and non-technical leaders- Master's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Industrial Ecology, or related field- Experience managing large-scale supplier data collection programs across global supply chains- Familiarity with life cycle assessment (LCA) methodologies and emissions factor databases (e.g., DEFRA, EPA, ecoinvent)- Knowledge of emerging sustainability reporting frameworks and regulations (e.g., CSRD, SEC Climate Disclosure, ISSB)Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
