Adjunct Instructor - Nursing Foundation (Didactic) Job Title Adjunct Instructor - Nursing Foundation (Didactic) Pay Rate Job Category Adjunct Department SCHOOL OF NURSING AND HEALTH SERVICES Position Summary Information Responsible for teaching students in the classroom setting, utilizing current and multimodal delivery and evaluation of knowledge, techniques, and skills. Responsible for the delivery of content in accordance with student and client needs and applicable standards of nursing practice, also responsible for the assessment of applied knowledge, techniques and skills in clinical practice. Work effectively with lead faculty, administrators and staff in a rapidly changing team environment. Support and contribute to diversity and student success initiatives of the college. Remain current in subject area and teaching methodologies by incorporating relevant safety, quality, and evidence-based practice recommendations. Meet scheduled office hours. Required Qualifications Masters of Science in Nursing 5 years of experience in long-term care or medical surgical nursing Two years of teaching experience BLS Certification Current Michigan RN license Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching in the didactic setting. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Participates in department and discipline curriculum activities when time permits. Develops plans that promote the development of higher-order thinking skills in the instructional process. Supports the academic area and college through other work normally expected of adjunct faculty members. Serves as a role model of professional nursing in the practice setting. Other duties may be assigned. General Responsibilities Reviews orientation content. Advises students on curriculum, academic programs, employment and career goals, and other matters as appropriate. Responds to requests by discipline leaders, department heads, committee chairs and lead faculty in a timely and appropriate manner. Consistently meets instructional schedule and other assignments and commitments in support of the college. Treats all members of the college community with dignity and respect. Works through established channels to resolve problems. Participates in college and discipline planning and improvement activities as requested. Formally upholds all college policies. Upholds and enforces the Student and Nurses Code of Conduct. Develops and nurtures positive professional relationships with program clinical partners and staff. Professional Growth Maintains a current knowledge in subject area(s) of instruction. Maintains a current knowledge of evidence based practice relevant to the theory and clinical teaching environment. Is fully committed to the mission and values of Southwestern Michigan College. All applicants must demonstrate the ability to promote active and collaborative learning through a variety of teaching methods, as well as relate to students. Excellent organization and communication skills as well as the demonstrated use of instructional technology are required. Physical Requirements The physical activity of this position: Climbing or ascending/descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, or the like, using feet, legs, hands, or arms. Balancing to maintain body equilibrium on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. Stooping by bending the spine at the waist. Kneeling by bending the legs at the knees to come to a rest on the knees. Crouching by bending the body downward and forward. Crawling on hands and knees or hands and feet. Reaching by extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Standing for sustained periods of time. Walking to accomplish tasks, especially for long distances. Pushing by applying steady force with upper extremities. Pulling by exerting force to draw, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion. Lifting by raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving them horizontally. Hand and finger coordination for tasks requiring typed or keyboarded input, picking, pinching, and handling small objects. Grasping by applying pressure with fingers and palm. Feeling by perceiving attributes of objects through touch. Talking by expressing ideas orally. Hearing by perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Repetitive motion of wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The physical requirements of this position: Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. The visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception, and field vision: Required to determine accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures. The conditions the employee will be subject to in this position: Atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
