Associate Field Application Engineer

Associate Field Applications Engineer (Hybrid; based in Elgin, Illinois) An Associate Field Applications Engineer (AFAE) provides technical and application support to the HARTING sales force, direct customers, and distributors. The main responsibility is to secure design wins across all product lines through quality customer and technical support and collaborative solution development. The AFAE will learn a wide variety of skills with plans to specialize into areas of focus in the future. They report to the Field Application Engineer Supervisor. Periodic travel will be required to support customers, sales team, and distribution partners. Key Responsibilities Advance sales opportunities toward design‑in wins through technical support and solution development, and voice‑of‑customer feedback. This can include BOM building, coordinating prototype/sample builds, and creating comprehensive solution proposals. Provide direct response to technical support inquiries from customers through the HARTING website and other digital contact platforms. Understand basic manual and automated tooling concepts and help support customer tooling inquiries. Provide onsite support for customers and support onsite customer presentations and product demonstrations. Represent HARTING at trade shows and other HARTING customer‑facing events. Create technical documentation for customized components (e.g., private label, customized, modified, kitted parts). Develop and maintain internal and external tools (e.g., selection guides, catalogs, search tools) that consolidate and simplify component selection to increase overall sales. Leverage digital tools to provide effective response to customer inquiries. Provide product expertise and technical support for various internal departments including marketing, product management, sales, business development, and product development. Create and present in‑person and virtual technical presentations and trainings for customers and internal HARTING personnel. Develop training resources for HARTING employees related to product competence, utilization of digital tools, and job processes. Other duties as assigned. Travel 15‑25% and possess a valid passport for periodic international travel. Skills and Experience Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from a four‑year college or university in an engineering discipline, preferably electrical or mechanical. 0‑2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of current Windows OS and Office Suite products and various Windows applications including presentation software. Ability to use e‑mail and web browsing software and understand the uses to obtain, document and provide information. Compensation Competitive base salary: $55,000 – $65,000 (commensurate with experience, subject to change dependent on physical location). Eligible for a 5% discretionary annual bonus.
