Special Education Instructional Health Assistant (2026-27) – Roby Elementary Starting Date: Aug 7, 2026 Job Description Roby Elementary is looking for a Special Education Instructional Health Assistant. In this position you will assist students with special education services within a highly structured resource classroom and in the general education classroom. You will collaborate with teachers and instructional assistants as part of a high‑functioning team. At times you may provide health‑care needs of students during the school day, including toileting assistance, in accordance with state laws and district regulations. You must commit to a positive school culture where all students are cared for and provided the supports to ensure growth. Position Details Hours: 6.5 hours per day (plus a 30‑minute unpaid lunch) Contract Length: 183 days per year (170 instructional days, 4 holidays, 7 planning days, 2 extended days) Contract Adjustments: Contracted days will be prorated based on start date Employment Status: Full‑time with benefits Employment Type: 10‑month employee on the classified pay schedule Qualifications & Requirements Education: Must meet one of the following: 48 college semester hours, an associate’s degree, or high school diploma plus a passing score on the Paraeducator Assessment Exam. Documentation: Provide proof of educational requirements to HR upon recommendation for hire. Citizenship, residency, or work visa required. Compensation & Experience Credit Pay Scale (2026‑2027): Starting Pay (Step 0): $16.46/hour Experienced Pay (Step 10): $20.26/hour New hires may bring up to 10 years of comparable, full‑time, verified experience. The hired applicant is responsible for submitting the BCPS Verification of Experience Form to prior employers for completion and return to HR. Payroll Note Salary is distributed via a year‑long contract over 10 months. You will receive four paychecks at the end of June. Salary formula: Hours per day × Hourly rate = Daily rate; Daily rate × Contracted days = Annual salary; Annual salary ÷ Remaining pay periods = Gross biweekly pay. Life Insurance: Total $50,000 (free to staff) – $20,000 paid by the State of Kentucky, $30,000 paid by BCPS. Unused Personal Leave rolls over to Sick Leave. Unused Sick Leave rolls over.
