Duties

Help

• You will perform duties of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and serve in a team responsible for the rescue and on scene care of victim(s) of fire, illness accidents or other types of injuries.
• You will respond to incidents such as structure fires, wildland fires, medical emergencies, vehicle accidents, aircraft crashes and hazardous materials incidents.
• You will fight fires and conduct fire suppression operations while leading and directing crew in all aspects of firefighting, emergency medical, hazardous materials, search and rescue, fire prevention and communications.
• You will perform engine inspections and building pre-plans.
• You will review contractor designs and specifications for fire suppression/detection systems
• You will conduct periodic and special inspections of high hazard buildings on and off base; inspect installed sprinkler systems CO2 systems, flooding systems etc to ensure they are operational, maintained and adequate
• You will conduct training for fire inspectors and firefighters, maintain Emergency Communication equipment respond to emergency incidents and assume command and control
• You will perform safety and maintenance inspections on emergency transport vehicles. Perform maintenance of fire hydrants and check water system valves.

• Applicants must meet the Department of Defense (DoD) certification requirements:
• Candidates for firefighter positions must not have reached their 37th birthday by date of appointment. Information on exceptions and waivers:
• You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
• Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. Position has a maximum entry age of 37.
• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain
  the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you
  fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
• You will be required to wear a uniform and safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that
  are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
• This position has been designated Emergency Essential,. subject to call back and overtime. Shift Work, Weekend and Holiday work is required.
• Annual physical is required, to determine if physical ability is adequate for performance of duties.
• You will work an uncommon tour of 24 hour rotating shifts and may be subject to unscheduled and scheduled overtime.
• You must have a valid state driver's license

Qualifications

GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Serving as a Firefighter (Paramedic) providing fire prevention, and protection, assist in emergency operations to include hazardous material responses, and responding to medical emergencies performing initial and ongoing assessments, performing physical examinations, and assisting patients with medical treatment; planning, and coordinating a fire prevention program, establishing fire prevention policies and procedures, developing and implementing Fire and Life Safety training programs, and conducting fire and safety inspections off all buildings and areas

GS-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: utilizing firefighting techniques for fire hazards; working with firefighting equipment; driving and operating a variety of firefighting vehicles, apparatuses or equipment; serving as a Firefighter extinguishing fires, conducting search and rescue operations, performing invasive and non-invasive emergency and medical procedures.

Certifications for GS-08:

This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I and II, Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, HazMat Awareness, HazMat Operations, Apparatus Driver/Operator, State or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT), Basic Life Support (EMT-D) certification and Hazmat Certification (within one year of employment)

State of California Department of Motor Vehicles Firefighter Endorsement (for positions located in CA)

Certifications for GS-009 :

This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I and II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I and II and HAZMAT Operations. Malintaln a valid State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) certification, or an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) certification that Is reciprocal to the State, or a National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) certification.

The certifications must have been awarded by DOD, IFSAC, or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications you will be rated ineligible. Do you possess the above certifications?
