Lead Family Peer Coordinator (Mental Health Administrator 3) - PN:

What you'll do at DBH :

The Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) is committed to supporting youth, young adults, and families across the state through accessible, person-centered services. We are seeking a Lead Family Peer Coordinator to help strengthen and expand Ohio's youth and family peer support workforce. This role is ideal for someone who values lived experience, collaborative problem-solving, and improving outcomes for families through high-quality peer support.

Position Overview

The Lead Family Peer Coordinator provides statewide leadership for youth and family peer support within Ohio's System of Care. The role focuses on expanding the peer workforce, supporting consistent and effective service delivery, and strengthening partnerships with counties, providers, peer-run organizations, and community groups.

The coordinator supports peer supporters who use person-centered planning tools such as Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP), Recovery Plans, Whole Health and Wellness Plans, and Crisis Response Plans. These tools may be part of an individual's habilitation-focused supports, designed to build skills for daily living and community participation. While the position does not create or implement treatment or habilitation plans, knowledge of these planning approaches is essential to provide accurate training, guidance, and technical assistance across the state.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Coordination and System Support
  • Support statewide development and implementation of youth and family peer support services.
  • Assist in creating guidance, tools, and resources that promote consistent, high-quality peer support across counties and organizations.
  • Provide technical assistance to help communities overcome implementation challenges and align services with best practices.
  • Collaborate with county boards, providers, peer-run organizations, and system partners to strengthen local capacity.
Workforce Development and Training
  • Create and update training materials and tools that support peer supporters, including those using WRAP, Recovery Plans,
  • Whole Health and Wellness Plans, and Crisis Response Plans.
  • Deliver training, coaching, and learning communities to build workforce skills and consistency.
  • Support peer supporters in applying person-centered and recovery-focused planning approaches.
Certification and Workforce Standards
  • Review and process Ohio youth and family peer support certification and renewal applications in the eLicense system.
  • Assist with ethical complaint review and follow standard procedures for resolution.
  • Provide timely and accurate customer service to peers, families, and partners regarding certification and workforce standards.
Outreach and Partner Engagement
  • Represent the agency at meetings, workgroups, and community events to promote awareness of peer support and recovery services.
  • Strengthen relationships with local governments, provider networks, and peer-run and family organizations.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accessible public-facing materials and resources.
Data and Continuous Improvement
  • Use data and feedback to assess program impact, identify barriers, and recommend improvements.
  • Support local communities with data collection needs for evidence-based practices.
Grant and Administrative Support
  • Review grant applications and monitor grantee progress to ensure accountability for deliverables.
  • Support cross-agency initiatives and special projects that further develop peer support infrastructure.
This is an hourly position and is exempt from the bargaining units , with a pay range of 12 on the E1 Exempt Pay Range Schedule . Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm (hours may vary).

Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.

Qualifications

Position Qualifications

24 mos. exp. in development & implementation of treatment/habilitation plans for individuals who are mentally ill or developmentally disabled & working as part of inter-disciplinary team to assess individual's needs & abilities; 12 mos. exp. as lead worker providing work direction & training for other employees; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in state &/or federal regulations & standards governing care, custody & programming of consumers/residents in mental health or developmental centers; 6 mos. exp. in writing or assisting in development of policies, procedures, goals & objectives of operational unit or program of agency or firm; 1 course in manpower planning or 3 mos. exp. scheduling staff to ensure adequate coverage or projecting adequate staff levels; 3 mos. trg. in budgeting or 3 mos. exp. preparing or assisting in preparation of budget for operational unit or program of agency or firm.

OR

Completion of undergraduate core program in mental health & developmental disabilities technology, social work or comparable field (e.g., child & family community services), special education, psychology or rehabilitation; 12 mos. exp. as lead worker providing work direction & training for other employees; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in state &/or federal regulations & standards governing care, custody & programming of consumers/residents in mental health or developmental centers; 6 mos. exp. in writing &/or assisting in development of policies, procedures, goals & objectives of operational unit or program of agency or firm; 1 course in manpower planning or 3 mos. exp. scheduling staff to ensure adequate coverage or projecting adequate staff levels; 3 mos. trg. in budgeting or 3 mos. exp. preparing or assisting in preparation of budget for operational unit or program of agency or firm.

OR

6 mos. exp. as Mental Health Administrator 2, 65222.

OR

The equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Job Skills: Mental Health

Additional Information / Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ohio Certified Youth Peer Supporter or Family Peer Supporter, or equivalent lived experience that qualifies an individual for certification.
  • Experience supporting youth or young adults with mental health and/or substance use needs and their families.
  • Experience working with county boards, provider agencies, or peerrun organizations to support service implementation.
  • Experience developing training materials, coaching or mentoring staff, or supporting workforce development.
  • Experience with certification, licensing, or credentialing processes.
  • Experience assisting with grant review or monitoring deliverables.
