Job Title: Float - Direct Support Professional Department: Operations Reports To: Residential Shift Supervisor Date: October 2025 Job Summary The Float - Direct Support Professional (“Float DSP’s) provide high quality care to individuals supported to provide them the best care, to assist them in being as independent as possible, to have relationships with friends and family, and to ensure their happiness with Vista Care’s services. The Float DSP will also assist individuals supported with daily living activities, as necessary and in accordance with their individual service plan (ISP), medical plan, behavioral support plan (BSP) and in accordance with Vista Care federal, state and local regulatory guidelines. Float DSP’s are expected to live and model Vista Care’s values at all times. Duties and Responsibilities Cover multiple programs in an assigned region to ensure appropriate coverage and the highest quality care for individuals supported; travel across assigned region or to a designated set of homes as assigned. Provide direct care for individuals with disabilities and deliver the highest quality of care. Assist in training DSPs and ensure quality delivery of care and support; support DSP training as outlined on the On the Job Training checklist. Assist individuals supported in maintaining a safe and healthy lifestyle; monitor for any changes in their health, behavior, appearance or activity patterns; document and escalated changes with leadership. Treat individuals supported with dignity and respect; provide opportunities to build relationships with families and friends. Act as an advocate for the individual supported and ensure they are treated in accordance with all Vista Care policies and procedures. Perform personal care tasks including personal hygiene, assistance with appointments, medication administration and related tasks. Perform toileting duties and ensure individuals who are incontinent are changed immediately with appropriate care; report any issues immediately to Vista Care leadership. Assist with bathing/showering per individual protocols; observe and follow skin breakdown protocols and special products as required. Assist with meal preparation, grocery shopping, meal serving, assistance in eating, and cleaning; provide training on healthy dietary choices in line with healthcare professionals’ orders. Foster positive relationships with individuals supported, guardians, fellow staff and Vista Care leadership. Maintain thorough and accurate documentation in all systems (health tracking, GERS/Incident Reports, T‑Logs, personal hygiene, vitals, time tracking, overnight call circle, secure communications, behavior data, safety data, fall data, seizure data, medication administration records, daily activity calendar). Perform light housekeeping, including laundry, bed‑making and cleaning. Follow health management protocols, nurse delegated tasks, specialized individual instruction, medical or behavioral support plans, health and safety protocols and documentation requirements. Serve as a resource for assigned programs; represent individual needs and wants. Ensure safety of individuals supported, themselves, and fellow staff; transport individuals to appointments, activities, errands, jobs, and accompany as necessary. Report vehicle maintenance needs and ensure vehicles are well‑maintained and clean per Vista Care policies. Monitor and maintain a clean and safe environment for individuals supported and staff. Escalate cleanliness or program condition concerns to leadership. Assist individuals with planning and participation in community, recreational, learning, household chores, physical fitness, and money management activities. Ensure wheelchairs, prosthetics, adaptive equipment and exercise supplies are kept clean and in good repair; report issues to leadership. Notify leadership immediately of any health or safety concerns of the individuals supported. Comply with all Vista Care policies, procedures, guidelines and applicable laws. Attend and participate in trainings and meetings as assigned by leadership. Perform other duties as assigned by Vista Care leadership. Qualifications and Experience At least eighteen (18) years of age. High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. Previous experience as a Direct Support Professional or Caregiver is preferred. Experience in residential or in‑home services for individuals with disabilities. Successful completion of a comprehensive background check in accordance with federal, state and local laws, Vista Care policies, and industry regulations. Excellent attendance is required to provide high quality care. Valid driver's license, personal liability policy, and ability to use own or provided vehicle for transportation of individuals; authority to obtain DMV record authorized for coverage by company insurance carrier. Requirements Must be at least 18 years of age. Must successfully complete all certification and training requirements within the assigned state(s) of operation within 90 days of hire. Valid driver’s license with a clear driving record; compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and Vista Care best practices required when transporting individuals in a company‑owned vehicle. Experience in human services, customer service, or a related field preferred. Prior experience in residential services and supports for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred. Clear background check in compliance with regulations and Vista Care best practices. Consistently demonstrate effective decision‑making, strong communication, and computer literacy. Ability to read/write, comprehend English, and understand Behavioral Support Plans/Individual Support Plans. High School Diploma or GED required; college/university degree or equivalent is a bonus, especially in social services or similar fields. CPI or similar certification preferred. Physical demands: lift at least 50 pounds routinely; bend, twist, lift, reach, and assist individuals; work in residential settings and/or day programs. Will be required to travel to various programs as assigned by leadership. Prepared to work weekends and holidays; scheduled hours may transfer to assist other locations. May be exposed to blood‑borne pathogens if universal precautions are not followed. May work under stressful conditions and handle emergencies; pressure to meet appointments, deadlines, and crisis situations. Position may involve interaction with individuals who are intellectually and developmentally disabled and may be frail, confused, or potentially aggressive. Benefits Starting pay of $16 an hour.
