Overview POSITION TITLE (Oracle title) COMPLIANCE REPORTING SPECIALIST WORKING TITLE Compliance Reporting Specialist-Student Due Process SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT Student Due Process LOCATION Crossroads II, Cary, NC PAY GRADE Noncertified Grade 25 FLSA STATUS Nonexempt ELIGIBILITY FOR EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT No WORK WEEK SCHEDULE Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends) POSITION PURPOSE: Advises and educates school administrators and other stakeholders on the code of student conduct policies and due process procedures in order to ensure accountability and compliance for state reporting. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs) Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps; Working knowledge of a student database management system, specifically the Every Child Accountability Tracking System (ECATS); Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with ability to develop processes to ensure compliance deadlines are met; Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback; Ability to pay exceptional attention to detail and taking initiative to verify the accuracy of content, which includes excellent organizational, analytical, and proofreading skills with the ability to track potential errors and verify accurate data contained in database; Ability to perform assigned tasks in potentially adverse situations and under strict time constraints with limited direct supervision; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, Central Office staff across departmental lines, school-based staff, and the community. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE Associate’s degree or equivalent training; AND Experience in verifying accuracy of data compiled and creating reports. An equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully meet the essential duties may be considered. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS None PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field; Experience working in a public-school environment; Experience with basic statistical analysis. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as a primary resource for the community, school administrators, central administrators, and other government agencies on matters relating to discipline and student due process rights and procedures to ensure compliance. Monitors adherence to requirements of suspension notices and leads communication to school administrators on non-compliance based on Board policy, federal, state, and local legal requirements. Constructs and generates letters and documents for school officials (e.g., Superintendent, Board of Education representatives, etc.) that explains processes and decisions. Researches information regarding No Child Left Behind school choice offer requirements; coordinates new school assignments with the office of Student Assignment; generates letters to notify all parties once decisions have been made. Assists parents and students with highly confidential disciplinary concerns and provides them advisement on the proper next steps. Researches information regarding student discipline issues in order for schools to problem-solve. Answers technical questions and troubleshoots with school officials regarding the student incident and referral system database. Communicates with offsite programmers regarding updates and technical issues with the database. Performs other related duties, as assigned. WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force.
