Human Resources Manager – Manufacturing (Direct Hire)
Location: Washington, Indiana
Salary: Up to $70,000 annually based on experience
Job Type: Full-Time
First Call Direct Hire Division is recruiting for this opportunity.
First Call Direct Hire Division is seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager for a manufacturing organization located in Washington, Indiana. This hands-on HR leadership role will oversee employee relations, recruiting, onboarding, compliance, benefits administration, and HR operations while partnering with leadership to support employees, improve processes, and ensure compliance with company policies and employment regulations.
This position will also provide support with office administration, payroll coordination, and accounting-related functions.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on Human Resources professional with experience supporting a manufacturing environment, managing employee relations, and partnering with employees, supervisors, and leadership to support business objectives.
Position Responsibilities
Human Resources Leadership & Employee Relations
- Support managers with employee relations matters, personnel concerns, and workplace conflicts
- Advise department managers and leadership on employee-related issues and labor relations matters
- Recommend actions to ensure compliance with employment regulations and company policies
- Develop staffing plans and establish effective recruiting procedures
- Evaluate candidate information from employment interviews and support hiring decisions
- Manage successful onboarding and new employee processes
- Maintain current job descriptions and employee documentation
- Guide promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions, and other personnel decisions
- Develop and update HR policies, procedures, methods, and workplace standards
- Administer compensation, benefits, and performance management programs
- Support employee retention, engagement, and satisfaction initiatives
- Represent the organization during personnel-related hearings and investigations as needed
HR Compliance & Administration
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, FMLA, EEOC, unemployment requirements, and employment recordkeeping standards
- Maintain employee files, records, reports, and documentation
- Prepare reports and information for management review
- Maintain records management systems
- Support insurance forms, employee benefit programs, and compensation processes
- Ensure employee information systems and documentation remain accurate and up to date
Additional Administrative & Business Support
- Oversee daily office operations and administrative processes
- Utilize accounting and bookkeeping software
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities
- Record financial transactions and process invoices
- Assist with invoice payments and purchase order activities
- Assist with budget updates and financial tracking
- Support month-end closing activities
- Perform account reconciliations
- Assist with bookkeeping functions and payroll-related materials
- Maintain office and production supply inventory
- Enter, access, and retrieve data using computer and spreadsheet software
- Track and verify employee timekeeping information for accuracy
Leadership, Training & Development
- Plan, direct, and coordinate HR-related activities
- Provide guidance and support to employees at all levels
- Conduct employee orientation and training programs
- Identify training needs and develop employee development programs
- Prepare training materials and documentation
- Support management growth and leadership development initiatives
- Assist with workforce planning and organizational development
- Develop programs related to pay equity, retention, employee satisfaction, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
- High School Diploma required
Experience
- 5–8 years of progressive Human Resources experience preferred
- Experience supporting a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred
- Experience supporting a production workforce preferred
- Experience with employee relations, recruiting, onboarding, and HR compliance
- Experience with payroll processes, benefits administration, and employee records
- Experience partnering with plant leadership and production teams preferred
- Knowledge of GAAP accounting principles preferred
- Experience supporting a multicultural workforce is a plus
- Plastics injection molding, extrusion, or urethane process experience is a plus
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of Human Resources practices, recruiting, selection, training, compensation, benefits, and employee relations
- Experience supporting hourly manufacturing employees
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive employee and company information
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, and spreadsheet applications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Work Environment
- Office environment within a manufacturing facility
- Standard manufacturing environment with moderate to loud noise levels
- Must follow safety requirements and wear required PPE, including safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, and hearing protection
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds
