Hazardous Waste Technician

Hazardous Waste Technician This role focuses on hazardous waste handling and construction site clean-up, including trash removal and detailed cleaning of challenging environments such as encampments and transportation corridors. You will work as part of a field team to safely manage hazardous materials, follow regulatory requirements, and maintain a clean and compliant work area at various outdoor locations. Responsibilities Perform construction clean-up activities, including debris removal, trash collection, and site sanitation at various project locations. Handle, segregate, and prepare hazardous waste materials for proper disposal in accordance with safety procedures and regulatory requirements. Clean up homeless encampments and related debris in coordination with public works and transportation projects, including work along roadways and city properties. Support clean-up operations for transportation and municipal projects, including locations such as highway corridors and city-managed areas. Follow all HAZWOPER and hazardous waste handling protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices. Maintain required certifications and keep digital copies of certificates readily accessible for verification when needed. Participate in daily mobilization by meeting at the central office, loading equipment, and traveling with the crew to assigned job sites. Use and maintain rubber boots, hard hats, and other PPE as required for each site, and wear Tyvek apparel provided by the company when necessary. Work effectively in dirty, odorous, and physically demanding environments while maintaining safety and cleanliness standards. Follow supervisor directions, adhere to project schedules, and complete assigned tasks within the designated shift hours. Report any safety concerns, unusual site conditions, or incidents promptly to ensure a safe work environment for the entire crew. Essential Skills 40-hour HAZWOPER or equivalent 40-hour hazardous waste certification required. Experience working with hazardous waste or hazardous materials in field or industrial environments. Ability to perform construction clean-up, trash removal, and general labor tasks in outdoor and challenging conditions. Capability to clean up homeless encampments and similar sites, including handling debris and potential biohazards safely. Comfort working in dirty environments with strong odors while maintaining safety and professionalism. Reliability to meet at the designated office each morning and travel with the team to job sites. Ability to follow detailed safety instructions, use PPE correctly, and adhere to hazardous waste regulations. Basic physical fitness to perform manual labor, including lifting, carrying, bending, and extended periods of standing or walking. Organizational skills to keep required certifications accessible, including maintaining copies via email or digital storage. Additional Skills & Qualifications Confined space experience or training is a plus. Background in hazardous materials handling beyond basic hazardous waste work is preferred. Previous experience in general labor roles such as construction, maintenance, or outdoor field work is beneficial. Janitorial or industrial cleaning experience is an advantage for detailed clean-up tasks. Familiarity with working on public works, transportation, or municipal projects is helpful. Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a full-time, first-shift role with typical hours from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Team members meet at the office at 6:00 a.m. each day to mobilize and then travel together to job sites. Work takes place primarily outdoors at various locations, including homeless encampments, transportation corridors, and municipal sites, which can be dirty and may have strong or unpleasant odors. The role requires consistent use of personal protective equipment, including rubber boots and hard hats, which you must bring, while Tyvek apparel is provided by the company as needed. The work environment is physically demanding and safety-focused, with a strong emphasis on proper handling of hazardous waste and adherence to regulatory and site-specific safety procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Los Angeles, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
