Registered Nurse Perioperative

Assess and respond to the individual physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the patient through personal observation and interaction. Act as a patient advocate. Utilize professional nursing skills and judgment; take action to implement nursing care and treat the problems identified. Communicate patient assessments to the appropriate individuals ensuring the coordination of patient care. Demonstrate knowledge of diagnostic measures such as labs, radiology, and EKG. Demonstrate skills in IV therapy. Transcribe and implement physicians' orders in an accurate and timely manner while admitting patients to the surgical center efficiently. Document in the patient clinical records via computer with accuracy and in a timely manner. Check the required information on the patient record to comply with the correct surgical procedures. Complete final review of patient record to ensure all paperwork and activities such as site marking are complete and that the anesthesiologist has spoken to the patient and family. Provide appropriate and knowledgeable instruction/education to the patients and their families. Decrements supplies according to policy. Utilize supplies, equipment, and resources to contain costs without compromising patient care. Assist with housekeeping duties such as cleaning and making beds as needed for patients. When assigned to PACU, use knowledge and critical thinking to assess and give appropriate nursing care. Recognize patients' needs; maintain airway, monitor vital signs, utilize correct medication to control pain, and consult with surgeon and anesthesiologist if any difficulties arise that affect the patient. Evaluate patient's status using discharge criteria to safely move the patient onto Phase 2. Is familiar with the transfer process and procedure to send a patient. When functioning as a float nurse, maintain communications between all areas and is available to assist staff as needed to maintain flow. Relieve staff for breaks and lunch in a timely manner and utilize staff in a cost-effective manner. Works as assigned in the pain management and eye laser procedure rooms. Familiar with anesthesia supplies; assists with nerve blocks; knows the location of crash cart, medications that may be needed in an emergency. Participate in committee meetings, offer suggestions for improvements, and seek guidance and direction when needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
