Research Associate II - ACVP
$70.5k - $100.9kBioSpace
Job ID: req4606 Employee Type: exempt full-time Division: AIDS & Cancer Virus Program Facility: Frederick: Ft Detrick Location: PO Box B, Frederick, MD 21702 USA The Frederick National Laboratory is operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases. Accountability, Compassion, Collaboration, Dedication, Integrity and Versatility; it's the FNL way. Program Description The AIDS and Cancer Virus Program (ACVP) is an integrated, multidisciplinary program that pursues basic and applied studies aimed at improving our understanding of AIDS-associated viruses, including studies intended to facilitate the improved diagnosis, prevention and treatment of HIV infection and AIDS, and AIDS related tumors, particularly those associated with other viruses such as KSHV. The Program consists of several independent but highly interactive research Sections headed by Principal Investigators, whose work spans from fundamental molecular virology through in vitro studies, to in vivo studies in non-human primate (NHP) models, to international viral epidemiology. The ACVP also has Research Support Core Groups (Cores) that provide critical and often unique technical support capabilities to ACVP laboratories and other laboratories within the NCI, NIH, and to extramural investigators. Key Roles/Responsibilities ACVP is looking for a Research Associate II to join the dynamic and collaborative group under the leadership of Dr. Claire Deleage in the Tissue Analyses Core within the AIDS and Cancer Virus Program. Our laboratory has unique expertise in various tissue staining protocols such as immunohistochemistry, single and multiplex immunofluorescence assay (IFA), Hiplex immunofluorescence assay (pheno Cycler Fusion), next generation in situ hybridization (RNAscope and DNAscope), laser capture microdissection, and the development of new analyses tools (including novel AI approaches). The TAC performs both independent research and numerous collaborative research studies that we support in using these state-of-the-art image analyses. Basic Qualifications Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Virology, Immunology, or related discipline, or four (4) years relevant experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency. In addition to the educational requirements, a minimum of five (5) years of laboratory experience. Experience performing histology including tissue processing, cutting and staining on non-human primate, mice and human tissues. Experience processing tissues, organoid culture, and cell pellets. Ability to multitask while performing bench work. High organization skills are required as the TAC deals with numerous studies at once and tissues are coming from different institutions and teams, so keeping a clear track record of the samples, the assays performed and the results obtained is essential. Teamwork and spirit are important at the TAC, we are focused on helping principal investigators around the world in their fight against HIV and members of the TAC will always help each other to succeed in our mission. Basic skills/knowledges in Microsoft software. Basic skills/knowledges in QuPath software (QC slides and taking ROIs). Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance. Preferred Qualifications Experience developing, validating, and deploying multiplex IFA staining. Experience performing next generation in situ hybridization RNAscope and DNAscope manually and on BOND-RX. Experience utilizing microscopy and digital pathology methods for staining quality control and analysis. Experience developing and validating new antibodies, including for Hiplex platform Pheno Cycler Fusion. Experience performing Laser Capture Microdissection (LCM). JOB HAZARDS This position is subject to working with or has the potential for exposure to animals(s) and/or animal material(s).
