Client: One autistic young adult
Staffing: Primarily 2:1 and 3:1 team support

About the Position

Team Andy is building a skilled, consistent support team for one autistic young adult participating in California’s Self-Determination Program (SDP) through the Regional Center system.

This is not a traditional ABA agency position and there is no rotating caseload. Team members work with one individual, Andy , in his home and throughout the community as part of an established support team.

The goal of the program is to provide high-quality, person-centered support that helps Andy build a meaningful life around his interests, strengths, communication, independence, safety, relationships, and participation in his community.

We are looking for experienced Registered Behavior Technicians / Behavior Technicians who want to use their skills in a broader, more individualized way than is often possible in a traditional clinic or agency setting.

About Self-Determination

California’s Self-Determination Program gives individuals with developmental disabilities and their families greater responsibility for designing the services and supports that make sense for their lives.

Andy’s program is family-directed and person-centered . Rather than fitting Andy into an existing program, we are building the program around Andy.

His staff will help support a combination of:

• Communication and AAC
• Safety and positive behavior support
• Independence and daily living skills
• Community participation
• Meaningful recreational activities
• Flexibility and tolerance of changes
• Social connection
• Skill development
• Personal interests and quality of life
• Increasing opportunities for Andy to make choices and participate more fully in his own life

How the Team Works

Andy requires a higher level of support for safety, so staff generally work together in 2:1 and 3:1 staffing arrangements .

You will not be expected to manage difficult situations alone.

Team members are expected to communicate with one another, follow consistent support strategies, understand their role during community outings, and work collaboratively rather than functioning as isolated one-to-one staff.

We are looking for people who can be both independent professionals and strong teammates .

Home and Community-Based Support

This position takes place primarily in Andy’s home in Huntington Beach and throughout the surrounding community.

A typical shift may include a combination of:

• Supporting morning or daily routines
• Communication and choice-making
• Community outings
• Recreational activities
• Skill-building activities
• Music, movies, crafts, games, or other preferred interests
• Exercise and community participation
• Supporting transitions
• Practicing independence and daily living skills
• Implementing proactive behavior and safety strategies
• Collecting appropriate behavioral or program data
• Completing shift documentation
• Collaborating with other members of the team

This is an active position. We want staff who are comfortable doing things with Andy , not simply supervising him.

About Andy

Andy is an autistic young adult who enjoys being out in the community and having meaningful things to do.

His interests include music, movies, car rides, amusement parks, the aquarium, creative activities, outings, food, and recreational activities. He does best when his day has structure while still including activities that are enjoyable and meaningful to him.

Building rapport is extremely important.

The staff who tend to be the best fit are calm, patient, dependable, playful, observant, and willing to take the time to learn who Andy is—not simply learn a list of behaviors.

Behavior Support

Andy has significant safety needs, including a history of elopement, and requires staff who can remain attentive and proactive in both home and community settings.

This program uses positive, preventative behavioral support. Staff will be expected to follow established strategies, recognize potential triggers, support communication, prepare Andy for transitions, reinforce successful participation, and respond consistently as a team.

We are looking for experienced RBTs who understand that behavior support is not simply reacting when something goes wrong. Strong staff help create the conditions for success before a problem occurs.

Employment and Cambrian FMS

This position is part of Andy’s Self-Determination Program .

Employment administration, onboarding, payroll, required documentation, and related employer-of-record/FMS processes are coordinated through Cambrian Financial Management Services (FMS) as part of the Self-Determination Program.

Candidates selected for the team must successfully complete all required Cambrian/FMS onboarding requirements before beginning employment.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

• RBT credential required — active or inactive status accepted
• Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience working with individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, ABA, behavioral support, or a closely related population
• College degree/diploma required
• Experience implementing behavioral strategies in real-world settings
• Ability to work effectively as part of a 2:1 or 3:1 team
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Reliable attendance and dependable transportation to Huntington Beach
• Comfortable providing support in both home and community environments
• Ability to remain calm and attentive in situations involving behavioral or safety concerns
• Ability to complete required documentation and data collection
• Willingness to learn Andy’s individual communication style, routines, strengths, preferences, and support needs
