Staff Android Engineer (Founding)

Responsibilities

• Design the architecture and technical foundations for Grow’s native Android app, including project structure, state management, build, testing, and release infrastructure.
• Build and ship consumer-facing Android features that help clients discover care, connect with providers, and manage their care journey.
• Set and evolve Android coding standards, tooling, and engineering practices as the team grows.
• Own the production path, including CI/CD, Google Play release management, observability, and healthcare-app quality and security practices.
• Partner with product, design, iOS, and backend teams to connect technical decisions with product goals and user experience.
• Drive cross-functional technical decisions and represent Android roadmap tradeoffs to stakeholders.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, primarily in native Android development with Kotlin, spanning platform architecture and consumer-facing features.
• Experience leading the technical direction of an Android app or platform from an early or 0-to-1 stage or through a major re-architecture.
• Production experience with modern Android technologies including Jetpack Compose, Kotlin coroutines and Flow, dependency injection, modularization, Gradle build tooling, and testing strategies.
• Strong product instincts and ability to partner effectively with product and design teams.
• Experience using AI development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or GitHub Copilot as part of the development workflow.
• Preferred: experience with Kotlin Multiplatform or shared-code strategies.
• Preferred: experience building mobile apps in regulated or healthcare settings, including attention to sensitive data and accessibility.
• Preferred: experience hiring, mentoring, and establishing standards for Android teams.
