Shift Leader

Overview Break Time Shift Leaders assist in the management and operations of a Break Time Convenience Store. This first step into management assists with the store’s finances, performs shift supervision, and completes the necessary paperwork. Responsibilities Provide excellent customer service by engaging with customers, greetting and thanking them, handling complaints quickly and courteously, and conducting accurate and efficient transactions. Assist in all aspects of store operation including daily reporting, banking, inventory, bookkeeping, fuel management, maintaining cleanliness, opening/closing, and executing food programs. Execute merchandising and sales activities: proper pricing, promotions, suggestive selling, vendor checks, and keeping merchandise stocked, clean, fronted, and faced, including the cooler. Supervise assigned shifts in the absence of the manager, help train new employees on company policies, provide input for performance evaluation and disciplinary action, and promote food safety. Maintain timely and professional communication with customers, vendors, employees, and management. Understand store finances, control merchandise and cash shortages, participate in audits, help meet company sales goals and control expenses, and perform loss control functions. Exhibit professionalism, assist in recruiting, training, and developing the store team, and adhere to all regulations concerning job responsibilities and store operations. Use store technology including point of sale systems, desktop and laptop computers, and handheld devices; perform calculations for change, shift reports, and product counts. Perform other duties as assigned per company and position specific policies. Job Requirements 18 years of age or older. Friendly, customer‑service oriented, works well in fast‑paced environment. Valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and adequate transportation for bank deposits. Flexible availability including all shifts, weekends, and holidays. Ability to perform mathematical calculations for change, shift reports, and vendor checks. Ability to learn new concepts, use technical materials, operate computer and office productivity machinery. Ability to perform duties accurately and with minimal supervision. Physical ability to move and position products in cooler (up to 30 °F) and freezer (0 °F) for up to one hour. Physical ability to lift/retrieve items weighing up to 50 lb and stand for up to nine hours per shift. Willingness to occasionally ascend and descend ladders. Ability to observe and inspect items and work environment for safety concerns. Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English for communication. Pass a pre‑employment background check and drug test. Legal authorization to work in the United States. Preferred Skills High school diploma or GED equivalent. Prior management/leadership experience.
