Fabricator - Welder

Fabricator Mig Welder This role focuses on fabricating and MIG welding metal booths used in applications such as border control, toll collection, and valet services. You will work primarily with galvanized sheet metal, using a full range of welding positions to construct booths according to detailed prints and measurements. This is a hands-on, first-shift position in a shop environment, where you transform raw materials into finished, structurally sound products. Responsibilities Fabricate and assemble metal booths used for applications such as border patrol, toll booths, and valet stands. Perform MIG welding on galvanized sheet metal, ensuring strong, clean, and structurally sound welds. Use a full range of welding motions and positions, including overhead, circular, and other required angles. Read and interpret engineering prints, drawings, and fabrication plans to determine construction requirements. Measure and mark materials accurately using a tape measure and other basic measuring tools. Lay out, cut, fit, and tack components prior to final welding to meet design specifications. Inspect completed welds and fabricated assemblies for quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications. Follow all shop safety procedures, including the proper use of helmets, gloves, work boots, and other protective equipment. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including tools, equipment, and materials. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and deadlines. Adapt to changing priorities and booth designs while maintaining high-quality workmanship. Essential Skills Hands-on experience with MIG welding, particularly on galvanized metal and sheet metal. Proficiency in fabrication work, including cutting, fitting, and assembling metal components. Ability to weld in all ranges of motion, including overhead, circular, and other non-standard positions. Experience working with sheet metal in a fabrication or welding environment. Ability to read and interpret prints, drawings, and fabrication plans. Strong measuring skills, including accurate use of a tape measure. Understanding of basic shop safety practices and proper use of personal protective equipment. Ability to work a first-shift schedule from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturday hours. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience fabricating booths, enclosures, or similar metal structures is beneficial. Comfort working with galvanized materials and understanding their specific welding characteristics. Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precise work. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team. Good problem-solving skills for addressing fabrication and fit-up challenges. No formal welding certifications are required for this role. No medical certifications or clearances are required as stated in the role description. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a shop environment that experiences seasonal temperature changes, being hot in the summer and cold in the winter. You will work on a first-shift schedule, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturday hours from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The work involves regular use of welding and fabrication equipment, handling galvanized sheet metal, and standing for extended periods. Proper safety attire is required, including safety helmets, gloves, and sturdy work boots, to ensure protection while working with welding tools and heavy materials. Job Type & Location This is a contract to hire position based out of Mt Clemens, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
