Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN - Operating Room for a Level I trauma center requiring CNOR certification and at least 3 years of general OR and trauma experience.

Details

• Operating Room unit with 23 rooms in an acute care, Level I trauma, Magnet-designated hospital
• Day shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, Friday-Saturday-Sunday, 0645-1915
• On-call required approximately once per week
• Covers all service lines except cardiovascular (CV)
• Floating required within skill set, though rarely needed; may include floating to affiliate facilities
• Cerner EMR used for charting, experience preferred
• Scrubs provided for this role

Requirements

• Active IL RN license in hand or in the application process required
• Minimum 3 years of Operating Room experience required
• BLS certification required; CNOR and CST certifications preferred
• AHA and Red Cross certifications accepted; RQI cards not accepted
• General OR and Level I trauma experience required
• Bariatric case experience required: laparoscopic assisted cases
• General surgery case experience required: appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), laparoscopic assisted procedures, mastectomy, partial/total thyroidectomy, Whipple procedure
• Neurology case experience required: cervical fusion, craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, lumbar fusion
• Orthopedic case experience required: arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, open and closed reduction of fractures
• Plastic surgery case experience required: free flap microvascular procedures
• Transplant experience required: organ donation
• Urology case experience required: cystoscopy, nephrectomy, prostatectomy
• Trauma case experience required: amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, multiple injury MVAs
• Emergency management skills required: code response, fire safety, latex allergy protocols, malignant hyperthermia response
• Equipment experience required: electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, Hana tables
• Professional skills required: administration of blood products, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, Universal Protocol (time out) procedure, urinary bladder catheterization
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• SSN and date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

• Assist with a wide range of surgical procedures across multiple service lines including general surgery, neurology, orthopedics, urology, trauma, and transplant
• Support surgical teams in a high-acuity, Level I trauma and Magnet-recognized hospital setting
• Weekend work required as part of the standard schedule
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Up to 5 non-holiday RTO days may be pre-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
• All requested time off must be reviewed and approved by the manager
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Previous permanent or PRN employees of the hospital system must be separated for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this role
• Travel pairs are not accepted
• Parking permit required at no cost, arranged during orientation
• First day of assignment consists of virtual, at-home orientation with required modules due by 4:00 PM CST
