Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability through mentorship, literacy, social-emotional learning, educational enrichment, creative expression, and community-centered programming.

Role Overview

Mentor A Promise is seeking a strategic and technically skilled Director of Cybersecurity to help lead and strengthen MAP’s cybersecurity operations, digital protection systems, and security practices.

This leadership role focuses on helping safeguard MAP’s infrastructure, accounts, communication platforms, and operational technology environments while working collaboratively across departments to support secure and responsible growth.

The Director of Cybersecurity helps oversee and support:

• Cybersecurity operations
• Account and access security
• Digital risk reduction
• Security education
• Platform protection
• Threat awareness
• Security preparedness
• Organizational cybersecurity culture

This role helps ensure that cybersecurity is not simply technical—it is proactive, collaborative, and mission-centered.

This is a cybersecurity leadership and digital protection role focused on prevention, resilience, and operational security.

Core Responsibilities

Cybersecurity Operations & Protection

Help support and strengthen:

• Organizational cybersecurity practices
• Security operations and protections
• Digital risk awareness
• Infrastructure protection
• Secure technology use across MAP systems

Assist with maintaining secure and resilient technology environments.

Google Workspace & Platform Security

Collaborate with technology and privacy teams to support:

• Google Workspace security administration
• Authentication and account protection
• Permission and access controls
• Multi-factor authentication practices
• Secure collaboration environments
• User and administrative security settings

Help ensure secure use of MAP’s communication and productivity systems.

Phishing Prevention & Security Awareness

Help design and support:

• Cybersecurity awareness initiatives
• Phishing prevention education
• Security guidance for volunteers and teams
• Secure communication practices
• Security education and workforce awareness efforts

Support development of a digitally informed and security-conscious culture.

Security Risk & Incident Preparedness

Assist with:

• Security risk identification
• Vulnerability awareness
• Incident preparedness planning
• Security escalation and response procedures
• Threat awareness and digital risk monitoring

Help strengthen organizational readiness and resilience.

Cross-Functional Security Collaboration

Collaborate with:

• PromiseShield Privacy Team
• PromiseStack
• Legal & Governance
• PromisePeople
• Operations and Executive Leadership

Help align cybersecurity with privacy, safeguarding, and organizational governance systems.

Commitment

Volunteer leadership role

Approximately 5–10 hours per week

Minimum 6-month commitment required

Remote / hybrid collaboration

US-based volunteers only

Responsive communication through MAP systems

48-hour communication expectation

Participation in MAP onboarding, safeguarding, and organizational orientation processes
