Heavy Equipment Operator

Position Overview: This position is responsible for safe and efficient operation of various types of construction equipment on our job sites. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, excavators, bulldozers, skid steers, base roller, and loaders. Wage ranges from $22 to $24 per hour, based on experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Perform daily safety and maintenance checks on all equipment prior to use.
• Report any issues or concerns with equipment to supervisor immediately.
• Load and unload materials onto/from trucks, trailers, and other vehicles using various types of machinery.
• Operate excavators, bulldozers, skid steers, and other heavy equipment to move earth, clear debris, and level land.
• Dig trenches, holes, and other foundations as directed.
• Backfill excavations and compact soil using heavy equipment.
• Assist in the construction buildings, roads, bridges, and other.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
• Experience operating heavy equipment preferred.
• Knowledge of the aggregate, asphalt, and construction industry is preferred.
• Knowledge of earth moving and earth moving equipment preferred.
• CDL preferred
• Work Requirements: Must be 18 years in age or older. Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook. Must be willing to work nights and weekends, when necessary. Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required, up to 75% of the time.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements:

• Knowledge of aggregate sizes and classifications.
• Knowledge of trenching and shoring standards.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions from supervisors to complete assigned tasks.
• Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions.
• Ability to recognize hazardous conditions.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment, as well as being able to work independently with attention to detail.

Physical Requirements:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk, or hear.
• The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to handle or feel.
• The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Work Environment:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
• The employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
