2026-2027 Read 180 Paraprofessional @ O'Donnell Middle School Starting Date: Aug 3, 2026 Job Description To assist READ 180 teacher as they assist students in learning content and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women. Qualifications High school diploma or GED Qualifies for appropriate state paraprofessional certification Knowledge of school district organization, operations, and administrative policies Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills Demonstrate interest in and aptitude for work to be performed Ability to multi-task activities Computer skills preferred Experience working with students with disabilities Major Responsibilities and Duties Program Management Provide explicit instruction to small groups of students using a lesson plan designed by the teacher. Monitor, assist with and reinforce learning while teacher is providing whole group instruction. Collect and record data related to students’ IEP objectives and educational plans. Read to students, listen to students read, and participate in other forms of oral and written communication and reading instruction with students. Support classroom teacher in maintaining a positive learning environment and maintaining student discipline. Help students master instructional materials assigned by teachers. Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of teachers. Participate in in-service training programs as assigned. Assume the responsibility for instruction when the teacher is out of the room for training. Meet regularly with READ 180 teacher to discuss student progress and plan for instruction. May be assigned to perform other responsibilities by the campus administrator outside the READ 180 instructional and planning times: Perform personal hygiene functions such as bathing, cleaning, clothes changing, diapering, feeding, maintaining facial hair, menstrual hygiene, nasal hygiene, and toileting or toilet training as needed. Perform medically related services such as cleaning catheter, tube-feeding, suctioning, lifting/transferring (minimum 50 lbs), monitoring seizure activity, performing CPR after nurse training. Perform physical/behavioral management procedures such as administering therapeutic holds, physical restraints, monitoring scheduled reinforcement, monitoring students in isolation, escorting visually impaired students, transferring students in wheelchairs or other mobility devices. Perform specialized services such as transcribing Braille, monitoring augmentative communication devices, facilitating communication, supervising students during community-based instruction. Other Comply with policies established by federal and state laws and regulations, and local board policy. Maintain confidentiality. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief. Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities None Evaluation Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Instructional Paraprofessional Personnel. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals. Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head. Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); may require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds). Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; possible district wide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors. Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress. Job Requirements Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
